I think the total disaster that was Bulldozer reflected badly on AMD as a whole and damaged the perception of the graphics card side of their business as well. Now that Ryzen has proven itself competitive with Intel's latest offerings, Vega trumping NVIDIA in some important performance metric (like Ryzen did with productivity stuff) could really turn things around for the AMD brand. And with NVIDIA's garbage DX12 driver performance, AMD might have just the opening they need.
