Hello /g/,
I would like to go all open-source with my HTC One M7, but as the phone is on Verizon, I cannot obtain S-Off without paying for Sunshine.
In the spirit of RMS, how do I get around this fee, despite having the latest hboot and factory rom? All google results have turned to paying for it, and I am unable to justify that.

He doesn't have a cell phone because they're personal tracking devices.

Well, yes, but...
I am trying to obtain a free method of gaining permanent root, by attempting to avoid paying for proprietary software.

You may be SOL. I don't know since I've never owned an HTC device.

Remove the drm check for sunshine. I've tried to do that, but they obfuscated it pretty hard.
The other option is if you haven't updated is to s-off with free solutions. If you have updated, you're SOL. I believe there might still be a guy with a j-tag and factory unlock that you can mail your phone to (but it'll cost the same. At least you aren't giving money to that pretentious fag jcase)

How does one do that? I'm genuinely interested.

You do realize that the bootROM, both bootloaders, and the baseband software would still be closed source, right? A bootloader unlock will only allow you to replace the recovery and OS/kernel. Nothing else.

I'm aware of that. I'm only trying to go as open-source as possible with the phone. While I can't make it completely free and unchain it from the confines of proprietary software, I at least want a free recovery and OS.

You're going to have to pay for the tool.
