Has the Linux subsystem been improved in Windows 10's Creators Update (say, proper terminal handling for copying/pasting or support of network ABIs) so it's actually a viable option for running common Linux command-line tools, or should I still stick to Cygwin/msys2 as on Win7?

The whole point of linux is that it isn't windows

It works really well, the creators update fix a lot of issues. Such as the network, many of the networking commands now work fine, also calling bash from power shell and vice versa also works. I also believe I saw them piping data from one shell to another which is really cool.
My one current gripe with it is that they have yet to fix the firewall issues that have come up regarding pico processes.
