This so much, she wants a damn macbook but ive told her that a used thinkpad can do the same and more at 1/4 the price. fortunately or unfortunately I'm paying half of the cost initially so I'm trying to find something that's not gonna cost me a bloody arm and a leg.

elitebooks and latitudes tend to be cheaper because they aren't as popular as thinkpads and don't have the neckbeard tax.

Second hand 13 inch non retina mid 2012 mac book pro.
Got one for 350 GBP, new SSD, Battery and 8GB RAM and it's still shy of £500 runs just as well as a 2000 GBP 2017 model, and it's actually got ports and a magsafe charger. No emoticon bar though.
