>laptops are still largely dual core in 2017
>quad core is only for mobile workstations and gaymen shit
fuck you intel, mobile ryzen 8 core when? should be possible considering how efficient ryzen and pascal are, someone make this happen
Don't forget, they're also ULV 15w shit. Unless you spend over $1,000. Meanwhile something like a xx20 ThinkPad is using 35, 45 and even 55 watt (on XM i7s) CPUs.

Yeah don't complain. My E series ThinkPad (I have an X230 that I'm babying because its brand new and I don't want to wear it out and make it lose its factory smell) is a dual core Ivy bridge with a 17 watt TDP clocked at 1.8 Ghz. It does everything I want it to though and never slows down. It just stutters slightly at 4K playback.

Most cheapo laptops under $1000 are just facebook/office machines no reason for quad cores. It's not really intel's fault there just making CPUs that people want that gives decent performance with good battery life.
>>60050861
no reason for phones to have 10 cores but they do because there is incredibly healthy competition in the phone SoC market
>>60051033
There is a reason for 10 cores.
Not all of them are the same
Some cores are very low power for background tasks
Some are only used when heavy lifting is needed or video encoding
Some are just general use
Can't really compare considering the massive architectural differences and power limitations.

There have been cannonlake leaks of a 2.3GHz quad core laptop part.
That's pretty bad to be honest, Ryzen can go under 30W at 2.0GHz on all cores, and that's not a cherrypick mobile bin
Most programs except gayming don't need more than dual-cores

It's the other way around in real life
>>60051557
Intel is struggling with 10nm for x86, I wouldn't expect anything magical to come out of cannonlake or anything else for a few years.

if it says its """"""""""'dual core"""""""""""""""" then its actually a single core
