What are your favorite keyboard shortcuts? TIL (today I learned) that F6 in chrome takes you to the address bar (all this time I've been using CTRL+L).

What are some other cool shortcuts to learn? CTRL+A,C,V,S implied already
>>
Alt+Esc puts the active window behind all other windows.
>>
>>60029519
Alt+Shift+Tab

Some people don't even know you can do it and think the left-pointing arrow on the key is just for show.
>>
win+L locks the screen when your girlfriend walks in

>TIL (today I learned) that F6 in chrome takes you to the address bar (all this time I've been using CTRL+L).
Was using F6 for ages. Then sometime I had to use firefox (iirc) and F6 does not work on firefox. So I got used to ctrl+l. Now I am only using ctrl+L
>>
>>60029519
>all this time I've been using CTRL+L

That's the usual way of getting to the address bar. It's faster and more convenient than reaching up to the function keys.

I learned alt+d a long time ago. It's super convenient but some websites don't let it work, or flash or something. I don't know - I've encountered circumstances where it didn't work and I was super pissed.

ctrl+shift+escape opens task manager directly instead of that intermediary screen.
In all web browsers you can middle click a tab to close it, and middle click a link to open that link in a new tab.
In windows you can middle click a program on the taskbar to open an additional instance of that program

If you work phone support and nobody knows what operating system they are using and nobody can describe what the start menu looks like because they don't know what that is:
In windows 8 the usual point and click path to system information has changed but on every version of windows you can press win+pause/break to pull it up.

backspace to go back a page in a browser
win+an arrow key to snap windows in various ways

only recently learned alt+spacebar and using "move" lets you move a window with the arrow keys
unfortunately you seem to have to left click in order to get the window's new position to stick, but it's great for when the titlebar is off screen due to certain programs not respecting taskbar placement

Hold Alt and use Up*, left, right to navigate in folders in a similar way to back and forward. *Up is like the old Up button in XP and older.

>>60029546
Ctrl+Shift+Tab is better if you have a lot open.

Browser:
Ctrl+T opens new tab
Ctrl+W closes tab
Ctrl+Tab goes to next tab
Ctrl+Shift+Tab goes to previous tab
Ctrl+Shift+T re-opens a tab you previously closed
clicking on a link with your mousewheel (middle button) opens it in a new tab
clicking anywhere in a tab with middle button closes the tab, so you don't have to click that tiny X

Windows:
Ctrl+Shift+Esc directly opens Task Manager
Win+E opens the file manager (Explorer)
Win+Pause lets you quickly check the specs on someone else's computer
Ctrl+Backspace deletes the entire previous word instead of just one character
Ctrl+Del deletes the entire next word instead of just one character
Alt+Printscreen screenshots only the currently active window instead of the entire desktop
Win+ArrowKeys let you minimize, window, maximize, and snap a window (win+right on one program and win+left on another will show them side by side, perfect for reading PDF and writing for example)
Ctrl+Delete on a file to delete it permanently, without it going to the recycle bin first.
>>
