Why is it now required in the EU for every site to show a warning that they're using cookies?
I know that they can be used for some malicious actions such as tracking, but I'd bet 99% of people (normies mostly) won't give a fuck either, just presses OK to see the remaining part of the page.
They didn't care before, and this warning message is just a legal shit requirement to approve tracking people.

because the EU is retarded and doesn't understand shit about what they legislate.

Because lawmakers and politicians are the absolute bottom of society even below the muslim welfare leechers whose behavior is enabled by precisely those people.
most websites track users using javascript fingerprinting nowadays, the only data stored in cookies are site preferences. This does not help the users privacy, nor does it make browsing any easier, since every mainstream site will be forced to overlay a shitty JS banner.
