Running Lineage OS, Nougat 7.1.2, my Droid Turbo has zero issues and the battery lasts almost three days, even after being two years old. I even have the processor underclocked to half speed and it still runs with no hiccups. Don't plan on getting a new phone for a while, and I still get security updates monthly.

Touchwiz has always been garbage, the only thing surprising about it this time is that Samsung managed to make a fast octacore Snapdragon 835 run slow. That alone is mind boggling. Then you turn on the phone and after you log into your Google account, you have to create a Samsung account so you can use the Touchwiz bullshit. So you use a separate e-mail client, app store, and about a dozen other garbageware Samsung apps that run on top of Android.

Well, people here mostly used Sony Ericsson back in the day and at android v3 and lower all android devices lagged. It didn't get better up until v5.
That said, I've never heard a single complaint on Samsung in general. All the device problems come from play store being a resource hog and apps and websites having ads. This can easely be disabled even if you aren't rooted.

I don't have an S8 so idk how the latest Touchjizz is, but I have an S7 Edge. It's quick and responsive. Apps rarely have any visible lag, including builtin Touchjizz based ones. The system UI is very sensible and responsive. Settings just works, has settings in a single tab, grouped in categories, like on stock, with some frequent ones at the top you can customize.

It's the "US Unlocked" edition and I haven't flashed it to a carrier specific ROM so it's still on Marshmallow. This is the bigger issue with Samsung today, not Touchjizz. By now all the carrier editions got Nougat but it's still "in progress" for the unlocked edition. We also had no security updates between December and March while the carrier ones got them monthly.

I've got an S7 Edge and I'm happy with it. I don't particularly want an S8. The new stuff in it all sounds either meh or bleh. Bixby I don't really care about, I wouldn't use it. The 'infinity screen' sounds as gimmicky as the S7e's edge screen stuff. I'd rather they bring the top and bottom in rather than extend the screen to wider than 16:9. The fingerprint sensor has stupidly moved to the back. It was perfect on the home button, so you can wake and unlock the phone with a single action.

I don't expect to upgrade for a good long while, but if I were looking right now, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 looks pretty nice.
