Please tell me what voodoo ritual I need to perform for mpv to display the correct fonts. I tried copying all my fonts from Windows onto Linux, I tried installing VLC (does the same thing) and I tried reinstalling mpv three times. The only things I haven't done are compile it (I don't know how to) or get it from the AUR (see previous). What should I do?

Has anyone got the WWE Network to play in Firefox or Chromium when using Ubuntu? I have updated to the newest version of flash and it will play the intro video that plays before everything, but hangs with the spinning loading icon when it tries to play the actual broadcast. I have also tried changing the user agent to Firefox on Windows, but it does not do anything different.

What do I do if some fonts are invisible in my browser? The google search bar is invisible, every now and then some other search bars are too and so is the pastebin text box. The vast majority of other things are not though.

No that's normal. Select the driver you want to use and select either of the ones that start with 'from' to boot into the live environment.

You should always check the sum of an iso before using it btw. You'll know if it was corrupted or otherwise fucked with if the sums don't match.

Let's say I have a file list and I want those files to be loaded into firefox somehow without doing the manual "drag n drop" from a GUI file manager.

Putting a new PC together Saturday and apparently you can't install win7 on it and I really don't want to use Win10 so it looks like its time to go Linux. I've been reading articles and watching videos for almost two weeks and I'm still having trouble deciding on what distro/DE to get. Probably xfce or kde for a DE but not sure. I don't think I want gnome or unity. I've been kind of leaning towards Manjaro but have also looked at OpenSUSE as well as Mint and Zorin is supposed to be easy to use but unsure if its actually decent. Then there is the whole systemd thing which has fucked me up and would pretty much leave me with PCLinuxOS because I don't want to fuck with slackware right away, I don't think, so I am torn.

I don't do a lot of demanding stuff. I don't play any new games though it would be nice if I could run Serious Sam and stuff like that because I like to play them sometimes but not sure if that is possible with linux.

The things I mostly use now are VLC, DC++, IRC, Newsgroups, private trackers, freenet, a comic reader, a music player, and general web browsing.

Not sure if specs matter. Its using a G4560 cpu, 16gb ram, 1x240Gb SSD, 4x8Tb HDD and 2x4Tb HDD. All WD Reds.

Honestly though, binary blobs aren't that bad. I imagine if the manufacturer included some storage on the device, like your graphics card, to fit the proprietary firmware on, you probably wouldn't know, or even care. AMD does this, with a proprietary VBIOS, as well as other blobs in some cards. The advantage of free vs proprietary drivers is amazing though. Nouveau depends on many blobs for the cards to even load, yet has much less restrictions than the Nvidia driver (ie. Wayland support is garbage on Nvidia, and optimus actually works pretty well on nouveau.) Because people are free to modify and improve the driver itself, and work around the functional firmwares themselves.

Currently I'm using windows 8.1, but I want to make the switch to a Linux distribution. So I ordered a disk from OSDisc and placed it in my DVD drive.
Seeing as putting the disk in the drive showed me its internal files, I restarted my computer thinking it'd start the installation process for my purchased disk, but it instead took me straight to Windows.
Hopefully the screenshot provides necessary extra info.

Even torvalds himself admitted that the kernel isn't even close to everything in the finished system, before he realised he could make more shekels by not calling it GNU. Your kernel can only be compiled with GNU's compilers. Even without the coreutils you probably use a few aspects of GNU userland. You probably use Glibc. Linux was missing a userland, and GNU was missing a kernel. They both combined to create something nice. Versions of Linux with just busybox are just variations on the original GNU+Linux combination. Please accept that GNU is significant to your system.

You didn't need to pay some idiot for a disc. Just use a usb stick with Rufus to make a live usb. You probably need to go to the BIOS settings by pressing some key quickly in boot, like f10 or delete. In your motherboard manual it should say, or as it boots on the screen. Then either put the disc at the top of the boot list, or it might give you the option to manually override the order and boot once with that disc.
