Is x86 obsolete?
Why won't intel or amd make a better architecture?
because compatibility and negligible gains
Because Intel already has monopoly over shit
Why would they spend all the money to build a new architechure to compete with themselves? Cheaper to dye shrink and optimize
>>59972867
didden't intel create an new instruction set like 15 years ago which failed dramatically?
>>59972867
x86 is mighty powerful and designing a new competitive arch need Intel kind of resources. Intel won't because the are the market leader.
x86 is not obsolete because it's widely used an will be for a while.

Intel's next arch is supposed to remove some backwards compatibility to optimize x86. Wether they succeed or just end up with Itanic 2.0 remains to be seen. http://wccftech.com/intel-developing-new-x86-uarch-succeed-core-generation/

Processor archicecture can't ever be used at full capacity like how humans use 3% of their brains improvement is in the doing not the making
>>59972892
Because there were already other architectures and they all lost to x86
also this >>59972892
Also there is a better architecture already, ARM
>>59972867
Is that really what SpongeBob SquarePants looks like at 4K? Wow.
when apple jumps the ship to ARM, that's when things will take off :^)
>>59973044
Actually we use 10% of our brains, get your facts right dumbo.
>>59973138
yeah it's like you're actually there
>>59973175
Gosh damn I want a 4K television so bad right now.
>>59973170
Actually we use 100%, except you of course.
Brain doesn't need to activate all at once.
>>59973170
>>59973189
>Brain doesn't need to activate all at once.
but my almonds do
>>59973221
If we could activate our brains like we could activate our almonds, we'd all be psychic clairvoyant supergeniuses.

>better
Show me one ARM processor that can beat a recent x86 quad core. The xeon d which has the same tdp as a 2670qm already shows that x86 can have high perf for watt. RISC-V is more of an actual competitor but it's not quite ready yet and compatibility is also an issue.
