what does it mean when a line connects to the "side" of a resistor, as in the given diagram?
what does that symbolize?
also, i'm looking for a simple circuit consisting of a laser diode, photodetector (like a photosensitive resistor) and maybe an op amp comparative. The purpose is that i could print it out in a pcb and then place it in-line between an appliance and wall power. when light from the laser stops hitting the photodetecting element, the PCB acts as a shut-off switch for the appliance, shunting power from the wall straight to ground.
i know basic circuit design but not much else, any pointers?
