I haven't found high end ergonomic chairs to be any more comfortable than a basic office chair and ultimately less comfortable and scientifically worse for your back than a stability ball.

Ikea Markus is a breddy good chair. Here is an advice though, never buy a chair before sitting on it for at lest 5-10 minutes. It should be 100% comfortbale when you sit on it, and comfortable means you feel that your back is rested and everything is in place without needing to adjust.

Basic office chairs are indeed crap in terms of build quality and break within a few years. There are also professional office chair manufacturers such as Kinnarps, Herman Miller and Steelcase but these chairs are rather costly, often approaching $1000 new. They will, however, last you a decade. These also exist used or refurbished for significantly less.

As an anon above mentioned: you do not want to buy a chair without having spent considerable time sitting in it. And, yes, the gym is a good place to work on your posture to help prevent back/spine injuries in the future.

My personal recommendation would be to have either a saddle chair or a standing desk that you alternate with a more comfortable chair if you have to spend most of your day at the computer.

I would definitely schedule an appointment before your back issues worsen and start to further affect your ability to work and live life. Make sure they are properly trained and qualified, though.
