What would be a good GPU to upgrade to FROM a gtx 780 and would it still slot into my existing MB.

I would just continue to run 2560p for some time, and keep the existing 16gb ram

depends on how much room the case has and the motherboard. pcie 2.0 at least? 780 is still a pretty good card, just limited by vram.
