Is it a normal for Xiaomi Mi5 to have the screen go completely red in the split second after you lock the screen but before it actually goes black?

I though my eyes were broken, but I recorded it happening, picrelated (the picture in the background is basically completely blue). I'd post a webm, but the whole thing is literally three frames: blue, red, black.

Even though it may be a small downgrade from the S7 camera, I'm leaning towards going ahead and getting the LG G6 because of Sprint's amazing offer with it.

One important question I have, though, is can I easily and cheaply attain an adapter such as the one that came with the S7 that I can use to plug in USB devices like a mouse and keyboard dongle? That would be really good with that somewhat wider screen.

Also, what are the cheapest options for a thin silicone case and a tempered glass screen protector that covers the whole screen?
>>

No duh, dude. Eventually upgraded to the S7. I recommend you look into grabbing an S7, S8, or G6.

6. Idk honestly. Pixel is too expensive for something I just want to text my gf with and scroll through instagram. My S4 does it all but its slower than it was. I just refreshed the rom on it and cut out all the bs apps i never use and it's running nicely. It's just the battery life is AIDS, lasts half a day with light to moderate use, the screen uses 15-20% and the phone is sitting on the desk, screen off most of the day.

I've come to the conclusion that I don't need a huge screen on my phone.

I don't really watch many videos or play games.

I do however browse the internet quite a bit on it. But a smaller screen is perfectly fine for it. I used a Nexus 4 for many years and the small screen was perfectly fine for it.

Also, displays are the #1 source of battery drainage. So I assume a smaller screen would lead to longer battery life?

So my question is, other than the Xperia, are there quality phones out there under 5 inches ?

I've seen pictures of Asian android flip phones with smaller screens. Do those work in the US?

This is smoother than any Galaxy phone I've tried in the past, and while the curved edges are sexy as hell on the S8, the price point cannot be beat for the G6. Currently going for $300 at US Cellular with the free Google Home promo. I'm planning to sell the Google Home on eBay, so I'm looking at basically a $200 phone.

If what you're referring to is just a simple OTG cable that came with your S7, then yes. Every single android phone that supports OTG (which is most of them nowadays I think, just check GSMArena) supports using a keyboard and mouse. Even if they don't support OTG, they support Bluetooth, and so you could use a BT Keyboard + Mouse.

Preferably something that can run hearthstone without lagging like a motherfucker. Battery > camera > screen > speakers, in terms of my preferences. I can wait if any upcoming phones are quality inn my budget range. I'm coming from a Moto G first gen so anything ought to be a massive step up. Also, not a fan of phones much over 5.5"

Not an OTG cable, but rather an adapter that converts your micro-USB to normal USB. So those are also readily available for USB-C, then?

I think that's what an OTG is though anon? It's a special kind of adapter because I though standard micro usb to usb type a didn't work on phones. It seems to be a thing that exists though

Alright goyims, anyone here own/ed bq phones? They seem really well positioned and good value.
Ones I've got my eyes on:
Bq aquaris x5 plus
>5" 1080p bright as fugg LTPS LCD
>3gb/32gb ram/rom variant
>sd 652
>16/8mp camera
>dual sim dual standby
>dual band wifi, bluetooth 4.1LE, nfc, global unlocked bands
>glonass/beidou/Galileo for maximum nsa geotracking
>dedicated micro sd
>fingerprint on back (where it fucking should be)
>backlit capacitive nav buttons
>3200mAh battery
>stock android except camera app
All for €280, although amazon is selling it for just over 250.

Bq aquaris x is same as above but
>sd 626
>5.2" 1080p 650nit LTPS LCD
>hybrid dual sim/micro sd slot
>usb c and quick charge 3.0 support
>3100mAh battery
It's also €290 and is coming in may/jun

There is the x pro but it's out of my budget and i don't care for dual cameras, which is about the only difference along with 4gb ram.

Bq seem to be really good with updates, probably because they do very little above stock android. Also one of their previous phones launched with a cm variant and another has official lineage support which is encouraging.

What does the average /g/oyim think about these phones? Hoping someone can tell me about them because literally only one review that is in a language I know and it zooms through it.

Probably one of the best at the price range. No OIS so if you're taking a night shot and have shaky hands you'll need a tripod or a friend. Low light is good but night shots is better with manual settings, low ISO with high exposure time.

4000mAh around 10 hours only on PCMark benchmark

Hey, i wanted to know what you think about the Xperia X. In the actual state of things (sorry if it doesnt mean anything) i can't really go on every phone i want, i would rather stay with the choices of my next (phone provider (?)) catalog.
First, i wanted a Oneplus 3T so bad, but as I said, I changed my mind, was going for a Galaxy A5 2016 and now for the Xperia X.
What do you think ? Is the Sony nice enough to not regret the OnePlus ? Is it really better than the A5 ? I'm mostly looking for something pretty much responsive, with less bugs as possible, overrall powerfull enough to do anything. With solid build for at least 1,5 years of use and to handle games like Hearthstone. (Btw, i'm not willing to have a microwave in my pocket...)
Also i'm french, and thank you !

Disregard everything said. Go for the ZUK Z2. It's easily comparable to the OPO3 and I've managed to get higher benchs than it. It's a great phone, it has the same size of the Nexus 5 (which we all know is the perfect size, Nostradamus predicted it). Community is growing, there are a shitton of roms already, official support for 7.1.1 (if you're into chinese roms).

At half the price of the OPO3, this is the best bargain you'll get.

Reliability seems ok enough, I checked out 1 Russian and 3 Chinese forums for it but not much problems except for one Russian guy trying to repair his screen after cracking it. It doesn't seem to have fingerprint sensor issues like the Le Max 2.

It's main problem is 32GB with no external. Second problem is its updates aren't coming, last one was January.

Here's some camera samples: https://www.flickr.com/photos/146754051@N04/sets/72157679140730490/

From my experience repairing Xperia Z models they have the weakest digitizer (glass). Even a slight crack in the corner will often render the entire touch unusable. Depending on how likely you are to drop it I'd recommend against it. If the XZ is waterproof I wouldn't rely on that fact very long either.

Otherwise a fine phone internally, can't remember if XZ got some metal on the outside frame or if it was made more like Z5 with plastic shit everywhere.

He knew it was pratically worthless so it wasn't a normal instance to inflict this kind of damage to his stuff. Don't read into it.

This fucking thing is the worst phone you could ever imagine. You really can't grasp how bad the digitizer is on this fucking phone. Completely unusable.

I'm on a search for a up to 200$ phone and it looks like the best value lies in the Moto G4.

Anyone have any experience with it, better recommendations?
Very close to getting one

Finally got my Redmi Note 4 memephone. Gonna go load up a custom now now, maybe AOSP since LineageOS doesn't have one for it yet. Thanks for the recommendation everyone.

Is the Redmi 4 Pro plastic or metal? Seems like one source says metal and another one says plastic that looks like metal.

That picture is a G4 Plus, not a G4. FYI the G4 uses an abbreviated version of Android.

You can of course root it and do what you'd like, etc. Motorola/Lenovo even instruct you how to unlock the bootloader.

Anyway, i use a G4 (not rooted).

I use it with a case and love it.
>>
Are there any phone with 4GB of Ram under the oddly specific amount of $225?
>>
>>59935681
Oh, never mind the pic, didn't even realize it.
What do you mean by abbreviated version of Android, how does that impact the phones capabilities/performance?
>>
>>59934444
Moto G4. I bought it last week.
Checking your quads btw
>>
>>59935404
I had the three Moto G4 phones (normal, plus and play, went from a G4 to a G4+ and settled on a Z Play but still bought the G4 Play because i need a cheap easily replaceable phone i can take to work to watch my animes, read my mango and play my ps1 games when there's nothing else to do) so i can give you some advice.

The camera quality is nearly the same in all three models but the G4+ is noticeably better in low light if you care about that, battery is also pretty much equal despite the Play being 200 mAh smaller although it might be thanks to the lower resolution and smaller screen, the G4+ has a fingerprint scanner if you like using those, performance is top notch as expected of a phone with nearly no bloat (all stock google except for a sole Moto app meant for gestures like doing a chop motion for the flashlight etc), i had the G4+ on stock rom for 4 months waiting for a nougat update that came exactly a day after i returned the phone and the phone never slowed down or had lag, the phones are not perfect though, if you play any sort of game no matter how demanding it is the three phones will start overheating like crazy to the point where they're uncomfortable to hold, it's definitely not normal since i've had phones more powerful than these three doing more intensive tasks and they never got nearly as hot as the moto phones, the Play's screen also flickers for less than a second at least once a day but this is a kernel issue according to xda and it'll be fixed soon, also the G4+ supposedly has screen burn-in issues according to people on random forums and youtube but thankfully it never happened to me.

I'd suggest on waiting for a couple of months to see if the G5 and G5+ have any glaring issues and if they don't go with one of those instead, the G5 has exactly the same features as the G4+ but it's much smaller, has a removable battery and is supposed to be cheaper at $179 freedom currencies if we are to believe motorola.
>>
>>59935813
Thanks, that was pretty informative, but did you have any experience with the normal G4? How does it compare to the G4+?
>>
>>59934444
Lumia 920. I kinda liked it, but it was utter trash. Performance was shit, screen was shit, it looked like a brick, it barely fitted on my pockets, and it gets so hot that scared me.
Anyway was a gift from my father, the only phone he ever give so it was okay
>>

Are there any good, affordable Windows phones?

My mom has a Lumia 635 and loves the OS, but the phone is shit and I want to upgrade it.

Any idea if there's some nice budget (~$150) Windows phone from 2016/2017? Are they still a thing?

>>
>>59935860
The only differences between those two were the camera and the fingerprint scanner (normal and play models don't have one), besides that the G4+ is exactly the same phone as the G4, body, specs and all, motorola only slightly upgraded the camera and amount of ram and storage on the G4+ and even then it was on some countries only, it goes up to 4GB of ram with 64GB of storage but over here they only had the 2/32 GB model.

>>
>>59935993
I see, again, thank you for the informative posts, however I wont be able to wait to see how the G5/+ check out, besides the G4 is just in my price range so It'll do more than fine.
To add, I'm going from a Lumia 625 to this so I think I'll be more than pleased.

Ausfags, Telstra currently appears to have a good deal on the iPhone SE; $449 for the 32GB model. Not sure if there is a catch
>>
>>59935460
Enjoy it friend, i fell for the Mi Max meme and it's really good for jerking off in the bed.
>>
>>59936043
My gf's G5+ so far has been excellent, and the camera is pretty damn good, you shouldn't wait nor should you get the last gen Moto G when the newest one is out and it's only $29 more than your budget
>>
>>59936043
Oh that's fine then, it's definitely a good phone with tons of third party support but the overheating thing killed it for me since i do play a lot of games with it, check on xda anyway, there might be some sort of fix for that specific issue, most phones with snapdragon 810, also famous for overheating, were easily fixed by flashing a custom kernel and underclocking slightly.

My provider phoned me. I have been using classic Nokia phones since 2001. My provider offered me 6 budget phones for free (for being a loyal customer). Never had any experiance with any of smartphone ever. I am willing to give a try. Which one of the following is the best or should I choose as a starter phone?
(Probably all of them suck I'm just curious which one sucks the least. Considering that I don't want to spend money on a phone)
Huawei Y3II
Huawei Y5II
Lenovo A2010
Lenovo B
LG K3 LTE
Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016)

I'm using a 3 year old device and i have been using screen protector since i first bought it, and i can't use a case with screen protector because it just looks like shit. I searched a bit and internet says they're useless. Is screen protectors are meme or not using them is a meme? Do you use it?
phone is using gorilla glass 2 btw
>>
>>59936413
They're a meme, they aren't going to protect anything (unless you're putting keys in with your phone, in that case just use separate pockets bitch) and they actually make using the screen feel much worse.
Buy a solid case with a lip, ditch the screen protector.
>>
>>59936323
The J3 definitely, the two huaweis suck shit and are dinosaurs by todays standards, lenovo phones are trash and low budget lgs are always a terrible choice.

Can you explain what is a "lip" of a case, engrish isn't my first language but i'd guess cover of the case? Or can you upload a photo

>honor 6x costs 210 british bucks
>moto g5 plus costs 249 british bucks
>the g5 plus is inferior in camera and specs and only does well cause it starts out at android 7.0

explain this shit.
>>
>>59936777
you can see a better changelog if you google "android 7.0 features"
It's better and more optimized, doze is even more improved, you can change dpi in settings etc. if you're on lineage OS, update when nightlies come (since stable branch is dead they just label buggy things as "TEST"), but if you're using stock OS you should search the update, phone manufacturers often fuck up updates and new version becomes even worse than previous one (as seen on samsung and lenovo) major issue being shorter battery life, when it actually imrpoves it in aosp and lineage
planned obselence? retarded programmers? you say.

I bought the Moto G3 in June 2016 to replace my aging 1st-gen Moto E. The G4 was already out by that point but I was kind of disappointed with it, IMO the G3 was a better device, especially at $170 Canadabux. The G5 looks like it will disappoint even more. Poor build quality, poor battery life, and not the slightest inkling of water resistance; in other words, everything that made the G3 great is absent. This is a prime example of resting on one's laurels; the Moto G gained a reputation for being a great budget phone and now Lenovo is using that to peddle a mediocre mid-range phone. Fucking Lenovo ruins everything they touch, I swear.

Palm Pixi, bought used in 2010, first cell phone and smartphone. Loved that little guy, battery life was great, the keyboard was super comfy, it was tiny and fit everywhere. Didn't have a data plan the whole time I owned it (lol cheap university student) and it had no WiFi, but I was happy without those things. I eventually replaced it with a Blackberry Classic, which was so unimaginably superior in every way that it wasn't even funny, but I still feel a pang of nostalgia for the Pixi.

Have you actually tried a G5+? I've used all kinds of phones and it is a damn good budget phone
>>
So i had the Note 2 (as my first smartphone -- i stuck to my fliphone for too long) and it crapped out...then i got a Nexus 6 and it has recently gone to total shit: dverything loads slow as fuck, camera is shitty wont charge sometimes etc, and i really tried to be gentle with both

What im asking is -- i literally just want a non apple phone that is above all reliable, but also has a good camera and doesnt have a shitty ass processor or whatever.

USA, Sprint, budget is like...$600 or less??, and i dont care what size in the slightest
