It's known that for years AMD constantly lags behind Intel when measuring single core performance. Clock for clock cycle AMD can never compete.
My question is why? What does Intel do differently that keeps them ahead in IPC performance?

I know that, I'm trying to catch up.

Give me an old article link then pls

AMD focused on multithreading instead.

I know but what differentiates the two companies' cores?
>>59907936
Intel needs more cores. I want at least 4 in my laptops. Dual core is stupid.
>>59909163
Intel simply has better cores
because of Intels lead in the market they've been able to put enough money into R&D to keep them ahead of AMD per core
To combat this AMD focused on multi-core performance and easily beats Intel in that
So Intel has secretly been pushing many large software devs to not have proper multi-core and multi-thread support so Intels CPUs will perform better

>so intel performs better
only in gayming and by negligible margins.

A comparative look at Intel's and AMD's financial statement will answer your question anon.
hint: it is the R&D budget
>op asks a legit question but dumbfuck amdrones cant give answers instead they get triggered by reading Intel and vomit their usual poointheloo shill faggotry

and you still didn't answer OP's question. instead you contributed further to the shitposting.

1) AMD made a gamble with bulldozer and fucked up, not sure why they didn't learn from the p4 disaster, short memory no clue
2) Intel seriously fucked AMD out of a lot of money with anti-competitive practices when AMD actually had more advanced technology
3) Technology companies need money to research and develop new tech, without the cash that was stolen from them by intel, they lagged behind in research
4) Had Intel not did their illegal shit, AMD would have kept their fabs, would have been at 14nm around the same time as intel and we'd have a more competitive scene
What AMD did with zen is really fucking miraculous, would've been unprecedented if not for the athlon and athlon 64 dominance.
