if you're on Windows, Vuze is nice because you can bind the connection to a VPN. Otherwise Tixati is pretty good

None of the other clients are as good as the old builds of utorrent, they either all have worse feature sets, or have significantly worse performance (slower, use 10x more memory, etc).

I think Tixati is the closest to a lightweight, portable torrent client, but sadly it is banned in most sites because it can spoof itself to be another client (which it needs because it is banned on most sites... it's a catch 22).
