Was it all a meme?
>>

It happened decades ago, NAT just worked better then anyone expected.
>>
>>59886670
>oh shit guys, we have a problem! Quick, publicize it so solving it is easier!
>get everyone on the new protocol!
>smooth the transition!

>damn guys, why the fuck did nothing go wrong? It's almost like we worked our asses off to smoothly transition and alleviate all issues

This.

Liberalism works.

What happened to IPv6? Literally no one is using it

There you go. Count the ipv6.

You really don't belong here.

We actually do need more IP addresses. However IPV6 is a literal disgrace. Network engineers don't want it, nor give a fuck about it. It's overly complected and is actual homo. It also has snoop elements to it. IPV6 will probably fail. IPV6 != future.

Google, Microsoft, Farce Book et al want you to use it to make you easier to track. good goy.
>>
>>59887375
> However IPV6 is a literal disgrace. Network engineers don't want it, nor give a fuck about it.
IPv6 is fine, It's actually simpler than IPv4 and easier for routers to handle. It's network engineers who are a disgrace, most of them too lazy to learn any new technology.
>>
>>59887375
even basic networking with ipv6 is a pain in the ass, if you want to connect to ipv6 manually enjoy memorizing what, 60 characters?
>>
>>59886684
I'm ambivalent sbout NAT. I think it's elegant, but at the same time it's no longer possible for two computers to connect through the Internet without NAT traversal. It's no longer direct

Kek.

The only country on the planet with significant up take of IPV6 is ching cong japan (probably need for all the sex robots) as the men no longer have sex with the sexy slanty eyed women.

The rest of the world doesn't give a fuck about IPV6 AT ALL.

It's almost like it's a solution looking for a problem.

It is garbage, it will never be adopted even with google trying to push it (makes it easier to track you + send you ads)

IPV4 is here to stay until maybe the IETT pull their finger out of their assholes and stop licking google pussy to come up with a beter solution.

Also, Ian killed himself because of ipv6
>>
When will IPv8 come along and fix all these problems?
>>
>>59887603
Every 4th person to join my gameranger rooms has to be kicked because of NAT. Freaking sad, only a handful of people still play red alert 2.
>>
>>59887523
He's not wrong this time...
In particular the last parts.
>>
My take on IPv6 at home has been to block it on iptables, the only use for it nowadays is to get spied on.
>>
>>59887654
When companies decide they can finally spend a few bucks and upgrade that 30 year old legacy device running some ancient COBOL program. So never.
>>
>>59887659
What do you mean has to be kicked?
>>
>>59887659
That doesn't make the least bit of sense, unless several players are trying to connect from the same place at once.
>>
>>59886882
i absolutely refuse. its hard enough to memorize an ipv4 address or a phone number, no need to add fucking letters into it
>>

Almost 20 of connections to Google are ipv6
>>
>>59888138
If you connect to that one often put an entry on your hosts file. Now you don't need to remember the number, only the name.
>>
>>59887726
What the fuck is wrong with cobol nigger?
>>
>>59888168
ok thanks
>>
>>59886670
yes it was and today it is even more so.
people talk about IoT being a giant security risk and all but in reality most of private internet doesnt need internet routable IP's NAT is more then enough for you avarage user(home&mobile)

once IPv4 kicks the bucket and you only get IPv6 its going to be the golden age of ddos and intrusion.

Okay. Pretty sure it wasn't what he meant, but okay.

Or just register a domain on a shitty TLD for like $1/year.
>>
>>59889183

This situation will never happen for these reasons:

1. Your FTP server is not intended to be accessed remotely. You have no ports forwarded, so it wouldn't be accessible anyway.

2. You intended for your FTP server to be accessed remotely, so you either save the IP address in your email, write a script that updates an IP address on a remotely accessible server, or you actually have a domain pointed at that address.

I have a sub domain pointed to my home IP address, from a domain I already own, because I host a few things. People connect to my services via IPV6 all the time.

Like I said, you're just technically incompetent.

Some absolute cucks use it because they can't afford good internet.
>>
how hard would it be to fuck with ports to let some given port (65536?) define "we're going into the extended range now; similar to how utf8 gets done
>>
>>59889484
ipv4 is easy to remember, this is unnecessary for personal use
>>
>>59889596
Yes, and so were 2 digit phone numbers. But now we have address books.
>>
>>59889635
phone numbers are just as long as ip addresses though, ipv6 is unnecessarily long, they could have just allowed letters in the protocol and suddenly it would open trillions of combinations
>>
>>59889298
The kid wants to connect to other game servers (without known FQDN)without having to write the IPs down on a post-it.

That's literally why the hosts file was invented. Your answer is retarded.
>>
>>59889684
Then save the IP? I'm confused at how you have trouble saving a 256 bit number in this day and age.

>>59889553
Not exactly this, but what about using reserved IP ranges instead of ports? Like, say, add a fifth field: 127.1.0.0.1? Or maybe even using ports as an identifier, like you said.

Also, there's probably something really stupid about this that I'm missing.
