Hello /g/ I'm looking to upgrade my computers graphics card, but I don't know what would be the best option. I was thinking a 1060 would be a good choice, (I think I will need a new motherboard too as modern screens don't work with it).
My current rig is pretty old:
i5 2500k
H61M-USB3-B3 mobo
16gb ram
win7
GTX 570
Just hold out till the rebrandeons come out in 6 days if you want the best GPU near the 1060 class
(RX 480/470).
Those two might lower in price (currently $150 for 480 and around 110ish for 470)
or you might be able to want a possibly nice RX 500.

WHERE?
Got any info or links?
Thanks in advance

Are there any recommendable motherboards? I genuinely have not paid much attention to computers for a long time

I basically have the same rig. I opted for the 1060 back on black Friday. My reasons were:
1) Good enough for 1080p 60fps
2) cheap enough that I could replace in a couple of years without feeling like a waste
I didn't get a better card since I knew vulkan performance was bad on pascal and AMD 480 wasn't a better performer at the time. So i figure I'd buy good enough now, and get better later.
As of now though, AMD released better drivers so the 480 is decently better than the 1060. Consider waiting for the 580 rebrand. Should drop prices a bit and/or slightly better performance.
Also keep in mind the 2500k is getting up there in age.
Why do you need a new mobo for screens?

I can't remember, thats probably just me being retarded. I know that the 570 can't run modern screens so I wasn't sure if more modern cards would be compatible in such an old mobo

If you buy this RX 480 off Jet and use the code SPRING15, you could get it for $165 (after opting out of the other crap). That's the cheapest I could find.

That's pretty good.
Thanks for the info.
Still looking for a 8Gb 480 for $200 with a decent cooler.

Yeah my biggest issue now is if it will be compatible with such an old motherboard.
Is there a way to check that?
>>59881262
Probably the card, back then it would still use DVI or even VGA.

CPU is the thing to look for here. Google Sandy Bridge compatibly with the 480.
Looks like it shouldn't be an issue.

If you do the same with this 8GB model, you can get it for $210~

Also $150 RX 480 deals are kind of low (outside of Jet.com) but when the RX 500s come out they will probably come back.
