My laptop has this icon on the headphone jack. It doesn't have a microphone jack.
Is there any way to use it as a microphone only and how?
I just googled for two hours to no avail.
get a motherboard update for it
You can't, you have to either use the microphone or headphones. Can't use both at the same time
This is a common thing on newer laptops used to save space
Maybe it have 4pin minijack inside? If yes, then you have to buy adapter, not sure if you could connect mic and use builtin speaker simultaneously
You obviously didn't google hard enough. Buy a headset splitter that takes a microphone and headphones and outputs a single plug. Only plug in a microphone.

MAYBE an adapter 2-to-1 jack will work. Else you can't use both and get rekt

It should work. Its a 4-pole 3.5mm. Either use a headset from a cell phone, or buy the splitter(the mic is on the 2nd pole i think) and only plug a microphone in, and *hope* your soundcard has an option to force audio through the speakers if something is plugged into the 3.5mm port.
