6700k vs 7700k
I want Win 7 support, is there a downside in the aspect of DDR4 if I go with Skylake instead of Kaby Lake ?
Currently have a 2500k @ stock cuz reasons.
I know at the same frequency they're identical clock for clock wise, so Kaby Lake seems like a mother fucking retarded purchase since I can't use Windows 7.
I'd dual-boot 7 and 10 with Skylake like I am now.
I won't be upgrading after this for a super long time, so my 780 Ti Classified is getting replaced by a 1080 Ti since I just got a 27" 1440p IPS 144hz G-Sync display.
kaby lake is like 1% faster

Yeah, my question is are there any cons to DDR4 on Skylake compared to Kaby Lake.

you can use 7 on kaby, you just lose things like the 4k hardware decoder or whatever. you lose the generation specific additions

Microsoft is blocking updates now though, and the workarounds are shitty, so it's inevitable you'll just have to do way too much just to get Windows 7 working on it.

>but its 2 hard!
>muh updates
stay on windows 10 dude
No one's answered his question

If op wants Win 7, get 6700k for sure.
>Non-delidded 7700k has no advantages.
>7700k 5Ghz on air requires delidding + NH-d15 or similar (+$100).
>DDR4 usage is the same for sky/kaby dependent on motherboard.

Doesn't DDR4 3200 on some Skylake mobo's sometimes need a slight multiplier increase of like 1-3 which usually doesn't need a voltage change and won't have any negative side effects ?

>>59869231
I meant the CPU needs the mutiplier increase
>>59868789
more like 15% faster, but who's counting

The only difference is that Skylake can't clock as high on average, but even then you're only talking 200-300MHz. Around 4.6-4.7GHz is where it generally tops out at non-housefire voltages, whilst Kaby Lake can usually do 4.8-4.9GHz before it catches fire, though it runs hotter than Skylake across the board.

Hey what the fuck why does my 1070ftw say only 4gb?
>>59869440
Wow I'm like a double dipshit tonight.
Says 8gb in the nvidia control panel, oh well.
>>59868746
ryzen 7 1700 is better then both of those turds

Good goy
