Why are you not preordering the GPD pocket?

>7" inch laptop
>intel atom z8750 quad core
>8gb ram
>128gb emmc
>12 hour battery life

Their indiegogo campaign raised $2.7 million

>>

>>
>>59854229
>12 hour battery life

yeah, i highly doubt that

My tablet has the same specs almost(4gb ram instead of 8gb) and the battery is drained in 3 hours
>>
>preordering
>indiegogo

Oh look another garbage gimmick that will cost way too damn much, get delayed for years and when it finally comes out it will be the most underwhelming device ever

Nothing good has ever come out of Indiegogo, your little pet project isn't going to be the first.
>>
>>59854259

I know it's going to be a piece of shit. That processor is garbage, the single performance is comparable to that of a 2006 Amd athlon

Im just waiting for June to come so all of those who preordered it to be dissapointed with the quality and performance of it

Are they seriously demo-ing the performance of the "laptop" by running CS 1.6 ? The game from 16 years ago?
>>
Its garbage
The atom line of processors even the new ones are just not that good.
A great mobility device isn't one that forces users to trade off battery life to productivity but one that has great battery life and enough grunt to get the job done.
>>
>12 hours battery

If it lasts more than 4 hours ill chop my right nut off
>>
>>59854331
It can probably hit 12 with min. brightness, wifi off and idling on the desktop.
>>
>>59854339

It won't. Similarly spec'd tablets get around 4-5 hours tops. So they are downright lying on their indiegogo page

After people receive their devices and they see the battery is shit, the chinks will say something like "Oh, we meant 12 hours depending on usage..."

While I love unusual technology explain to me what exactly the use of an UMPC is? It's too big to be pocketable unless you wear cargo pants or a jacket with big pockets. What kind of work are you going to get done on such a small screen? For media you have tablets and smartphones. There are 11-12" laptops for when you need maximum portability.

The difference between this and a slightly larger netbook is what? For $400 starting as well. What is the point of this? Its all the worst attributes of all laptops in one uselessly tiny package. Everything is fucked and everything is wrong. Don't buy Kikstarter tier horseshit either. This is a computer, if you run into issues with hardware you'll have no outlet to get replacements and no proper support because the company will probably liquidate and vanish in under 2 years.

Its getting increasingly obvious that chinks literally shill here. 4chan is great for shilling because its relatively popular, no accounts, totally anonymous basically and hard to get banned, even evading a ban is easy as piss.

>7" inch laptop

One to ask oneself, 'Is there any laptop besides the toughbook that you would feel rugged enough to to carry in a pocket if it would fit?'

I kept my GPD Win in my pants pocket for about a half hour at work then put it back in my car. The build quality is decent just unless for travel in a blazer pocket a 2 in 1 would work just as well if not better and for cheaper

I did not understand the point of trackpoints until /g/ memed me into buying an x220. I even had another Thinkpad before, but it's one of the more modern ones with a fuckhuge trackpad and no separate mouse buttons.

The trackpoint needs to be on the home row, you need 3 separate physical mouse buttons and a small trackpad (or none at all).

Then you can type all day and never have to move your hands off the keyboard to move the mouse cursor. And you can scroll with MMB+trackpoint in some sort of pinch gesture, which is very nice.

Yes, most of its benefits are more apparent to touch typers and/or power users that rely heavily on keyboard shortcuts. Many others will find the touchscreen sufficient for their pointing and scolling needs.

That's why I said the current implementation is worse that not having it at all.
>>
>>59857404
the trackpoint doesn't make ut use/ful/less. The entire thing makes it fucking useless.

A smartphone + netbook is better suited for anything that you need.

The Pyra can do both and has a better community support (the Pandora is almost 10 years old and people still port games/develop applications and emulators for it: https://repo.openpandora.org/ ). I know neo-/g/ doesn't appreciate it but this is really the best device for my use-case. I'm not some "muh cores" or "muh x86" faggot so the fact that I can emulate Gamecube games with severe framedrops and play Skyrim on lowest settings isn't really an argument for me.

Repeating that won't make your argument any stronger. Yes, I'm gladly paying that because the resulting product is surprisingly better than the Atom x86 device for half the price.

Also please stop being poor anon-kun. 1000$ for a device you are going to use every day for years isn't that much money after all. I know I got my moneys worth from the Pandora and that was 600$ too.

all of those things are unquestionably better using a laptop. i mean, light coding on a keyboard the size of a credit card sounds absolutely fucking ridiculous. why the hell would you burn your eyeballs out staring at such a small screen instead of just hefting around a fucking laptop? it's not as though you couldn't afford one of the ultra-light ones, and you would have actual functionality instead of squeezing a tiny lemon so hard that you're fusing citrus atoms.

It's not a rip-off at all. EvilDragon is more transparent with the cost than any other jewstarter-device I've ever seen. Just take a look, he posted everything on the forums and the price is pretty justified for a device that is mostly custom parts (yes, the board itself is custom made). Not to mention all the other custom parts like the case, display, keymat... You get the idea. But hey, they're already sold the first patch so if you think that's a rip-off then why don't you make a device like that yourself for some easy money? Oh, that's right. The main difference lies in the GPU performance, which is not that big under Linux especially. I won't deny the fact that I could play most of my steam library on the GPD Pocket, not the Pyra. But really, that doesn't matter to me, I have a PC for that. >>59859573 (You) is also my picture and that device is really great for touch typing. Also, if it takes more power, it will run hotter and eat more battery, your argument makes no sense.

Apollo lake is based on Kaby Lake which is far, far, FAR more power efficient and faster than any atom based part and designed for tablets. Well, it eats more power and runs hotter, the Atom already is a pushing for the size and battery limitations.
If you compare Apollo Lake SoCs to the Atom Z8750 you can clearly see they perform the same, except the Atom, as already mentioned, takes 2W minimum and 4W at stock clock and 6W at turbo, while all of the, lowest power, Apollo Lake SoCs take 4W minimum, 6W stock and 8W turbo. That's a big difference for such a size and battery.

Architecture for x86-64 CPUs these days is nothing much of an improvement in performance.

It's a community driven hobbyist project trying to get it done as open and free as possible. They don't do shady Kickstarter campaigns and have a track record. What's not to like?

It absolutely is an exciting project for that alone.

lookup z8700 or surface 3 geekbench results. then kys

z8700 is based on generations old broadwell architecture. apollo lake is literally next gen atom you dumpass.

Still not seeing it, the difference in performance is 15% while the Atom takes 50% less power in low state mode and 33% less power at full load.

Atom got discounted you pleb, Apollo Lake is the mobile line that existed parallel with Atom, it uses more power

i have no clue where you're pulling these numbers from. Lookup the geekbench browser. And this is before factoring in the "shit on your head faster" igpu in apollo lake

Intel had Mobile and Atom lines of CPUs, Atom got discounted.
Current mobile SoCs take 2W more power than the Atoms did.

Read a little about it before posting dumb posts.

>>59874969
Even if you compare it to the Z8700 like in your picture, it's still only 30% faster while taking 33% more power, literary negative performance gain per watt, just more heat and less battery, you can't pull off those size and power restrictions with something like you posted. I still don't see your argument.
>>
>>59875233
That article the pic is from is specifically about apollo lake which is literally next gen atom. Quit posting you fucking retard.

>Even if you compare it to the Z8700 like in your picture, it's still only 30% faster while taking 33% more power
That's not how it works retard. It has a smaller die which makes possesses superior heat disappation properties and twice as fast of an igpu.

Your shitter device is slower than a two generation old smartphone. kys shit eater
>>
>>59875431
Why would something with a smaller surface be able to dissipate more heat?

by utilizing smaller and more efficient transistors.

to claim a kaby lake based part is going to use twice the power of a broadwell based part but only going to be 30% faster is retarded at face value. skylake -> kaby lake alone was a huge leap in power efficiency, much less several generation old broadwell. a 6w tdp is still incredibly low and will use very little battery. you'll notice smartphones have in the 5w tdp range and last all day.
>>
>>59875431
>That article the pic is from is specifically about apollo lake which is literally next gen atom. Quit posting you fucking retard.
The article is also from a time when Atom wasn't discounted yet and merged with Mobile. It's still a less power efficient chip.
>>
>>59876231
>by utilizing smaller and more efficient transistors.
They are both 14nm fabrications.

Love how you use the word retard but you make yourself seem like one every time you use it.
>>
>>59876231
That means it uses less power per transistor and therefore generates less heat. It doesn't dissipate more heat, retard.
Please stop acting like you know shit if you can't even into basic physics.

Numbers don't lie, Atom was the most power efficient chip they had, Apollo Lake is just a upgrade, it's no more efficient, only settling on a higher DPI and giving more performance for it.

I love how you get triggered by all this shit, you didn't do your research well enough and got made into an idiot. Deal with it.

it isn't less power efficient it uses a trivial amount more power with significantly better performance per watt. kaby lake also idles a lot better than broadwell.

>>59876266
he wasn't asking if the 14nm atom broadwell part was the same size you mongoloid. given that each gen of intel cpu sees performance and power improvements, i was explaining a reason why.

broadwell is less power efficient than kaby lake. you're getting less power efficiency. atom is just slower.

You made an absolutely retarded statement.
>>
>>59876352
>it isn't less power efficient it uses a trivial amount more power with significantly better performance per watt. kaby lake also idles a lot better than broadwell.
It uses 30% more power and is 30% faster in a perfect scenario. Not more efficient.

>he wasn't asking if the 14nm atom broadwell part was the same size you mongoloid.
But 14nm is literally the size of it's parts you pleb, on both.

>given that each gen of intel cpu sees performance and power improvements, i was explaining a reason why.
Please read into some information before posting.

>broadwell is less power efficient than kaby lake. you're getting less power efficiency. atom is just slower.
Nope, they are as efficient, new architecture just uses a higher power goal for better performance.
>>
>>59876380
A superior heat dissipation _PROPERTY_ that being due in part to the die size and trasistor size and overall efficiency of the package.

Quit posting you shit eating retard. You cannot understand a basic sentence. These are the people your retarded product is made for. Have fun buying a $600 tablet that gets crapped on in every way by a $200 phone.

>>59876411
>It uses 30% more power and is 30% faster in a perfect scenario. Not more efficient
No, this is not it how it works my retarded friend. We have already seen countless benchmarks showing kaby lake's superior power efficiency. Literally look up any intel cpu benchmark in the past three years. It's why they stopped making atom. Apollo lake is already about par with a smartphone power usage wise. Nobody wants a slower less efficient version of it.
>>
>>59876536
Are you kidding me?
Why are still trying to defend your abortion of a sentence?
Just move on, kid.

Imagine a scene where a fashionable woman takes a 7-inch laptop from her shoulder bag with a cup of coffee placing next to her. She drinks coffee while gracefully typing the text on her keyboard to chat with the girlfriends. I believe a lot of fashionable women will be crazy to have such a pocket laptop. Otherwise, she needs to carry a bulky MacBook Air.

A Linux engineer drinks coffee while opening Vim to program scripts with Pocket. Isn’t it all fashionable people’s dream?

No it's the fact there's endless content designed around this 4-9" size on android and none on windows because windows is garbage as a tablet os as evident by even ms aborting mobile windows

>>59877246
It's not really an opinion that windows scales the worst and has a shit interface for tablet use. I don't see how you can prefer that for anything really. A rooted slate with AOSP on it does everything you could ask for.
>>
>>59877447
>I don't see how you can prefer that for anything really
It's not a cellphone OS
>All of my Windows tablets but one ran Android as well. Guess what I never used because I preferred Windows.
>>
>>59877997
You keep saying that but you're not saying anything better about it. The winows interface is objectively shit for touch use and scales horridly to a small screen even worse if you rely on one of the countless programs that don't scale at all.
>>
>>59878483
I don't need to say anything better about it. I prefer it, you don't. I'm buying a Pocket, you're not. All I'm saying is that your opinion is not a fact.
>>
>>59878507
It's also worth noting that I'm getting the Ubuntu model, I'm just pointing out that Windows isn't even remotely bad on touchscreens, especially if you can avoid scaling (that won't be the case on the Pocket but that's their own damn fault for going for 1920x1200 instead of something sensible like 1280x800)
>>
>>59878507
I just stated what is OBJECTIVELY shit about it. These are not my opinions, they are facts.
>>
>>59878545
>I called my opinions objective facts so they are objective facts
Yeah, that's totally how that works.
>>
>>59878574
The fact none of the content is designed for tablet use? lol ok and a pile of shit is just as good as a gourmet meal.
>>
>>59878596
>The fact none of the content is designed for tablet use?
You say that like it's a bad thing, touchscreen UIs are shit.
>>
>>59878607
They are shit compared to a superior input device like a mouse but they're made for your hand and better for it.
>>
>>59878655
Sure a mouse would be nice but that's not really practical on a goddamned tablet.
>>
>>59878700
That's where having a UI designed around touching comes in. They both could be used interoperably but a mouse and hand are suboptimal for their respective opposite UX paradigm. Hence why Windows is objectively shit as a tablet OS i mean sure you can use it just like you can eat and drink piss...
>>
>>59878748
I'll take a traditional desktop UI over a touchscreen oriented one on a touchscreen any day, again, this is why I prefer Windows as my tablet OS.
