Alright /g/, I have concluded that I would love to make an indie game.
Nothing really advanced, just a 2D game.
What are my options when it comes to game engines, languages and or graphic libraries?

SLUT
step 1. Have a good idea for a game
step 2. If it's 2D you don't need an engine lol
step 3. As accessible as possible. (Ironically this may be fucking java of all things)

So you would actually encourage building the game in Java?

H O E.

You can use love2d, it lets you make games in lua, it is open sauce, cross-platform and its awwwright
>>59842855
Use python

In order from easiest to hardest:
RPG Maker
Pygame (Ren'py if doing VN)
LibGDX
Unity
Unreal Engine
SDL
OpenGL
x86 bare metal assembly

I did my first 2d game in Java. It was actually a lot of fun.

Would you recommend it vanilla or with a graphics library like lwjgl?
>>59842997
Pygame or something else?
>>59843055
lwjgl if you're looking to do any heavy lifting.
if your graphics are gonna be simple, then don't bother.
An option might be jogl, which is not quite as capable as lwjgl, but it's simpler for sure (less raw opengl work), so it's better than the native java stuff.

Pygame, of course.
Python has neat modules to make your life easier.

Snake and Tetris in Basic.
With colors!

I know, Pygame is great. I was just wondering if you meant some other library for games or graphics. Pygame is the only one I tried and it really is super-easy to work with.

/vgg/ has an amateur video game developers thread that probably has resources and probably won't be hostile towards a new person
