Why is HiDPI support so shit in most linux DEs?
Using a 13 inch laptop with xubuntu, took me an hour tweaking to not want to fork my eyes out.
Because 99% of freetards are too poor to have a high DPI screen and therefore do not develop for it

Use whatever torvalds uses, he uses a highdpi XPS 13
>>59839062
Linux Torvalds is anti-scaling, pleb
https://plus.google.com/+LinusTorvalds/posts/ByVPmsSeSEG
He juts ups the font size
Unity

because it works only for gtk3 and qt5 iirc
>legacy toolkits are legacy
shoking right
if this is about fonts you're supposed to use something like thiscat .config/fontconfig/fonts.conf
<?xml version='1.0'?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM 'fonts.dtd'>
<fontconfig>
<!-- Put custom global fontconfig settings in this file. -->
<!-- Setting to 72 here makes the px to pt conversions work better -->
<match target="pattern">
<edit name="dpi" mode="assign">
<double>PPI</double>
</edit>
</match>
</fontconfig>
find you PPI on sven.de/dpi

>tfw GNOME still only supports integer scaling
Many Linux users, especially developers are not chained to shitty guis that need explicit support beyond increasing the font size.
>>59839002
It's pretty good on recent Ubuntu and decent on Elementary Loki
It's shit on most DEs because most DEs are developed by small teams and are just special-snowflake bullshit or specifically for older, non-HiDPI, systems (e.g. XFCE).
HiDPI support is fantastic in GNOME, I've only ever had problems with Steam, which is more Valve's fault than anything, it has to be force-scaled under Windows and macOS still.
I assume it's fine in KDE at this point as well, I wouldn't know however. Generally speaking, just use a real DE.

Because you're using gnome. Gnome only alows for integer scaling for UI elements, which makes windows incorrectly sized; or non integer scaling for the fonts. But the font scaling with non integer numbers breaks the crispness of the fonts.
I use i3wm, but only ever really use vim and internet so don't need GUI,
but it looks fantastic on 2 4k monitors.
To imporve your fonts in gnome, dont use non-integer scaling, enable subpixel-rendering and slight hinting, make sure your dpi is an integer multiple of 92 and that you're use ttf fonts.
