I transcended the x86 meme long ago, your registers mean nothing to me.
>>

Its not a matter of falling for it, its a matter of being dragged over the edge and into its chasm. Same with 95% of technology standards.
>>
>>59837177
I've got a dual 1.1GHz PIII / 2GB system under my desk here. Haven't touched it in a while though.
>>
>>59837177
My main computer still is a PIII 500 mhz with 384 mb of ram and a fx5500(256mb).

Running debian + ratpoison.
>>
>>59840657
>fx5500
actually worse than a fx5200
>>
I'm running a Core Duo on my main machine, no 64 bit meem here
>>
>>59837177
Thought I kept my PIII 1Ghz longer in action than most. I had to upgrade it because I wanted to play H264/V9 in their original framerate for once.

Dual socket all the way.

Windows NT truly is superior to that DOS based stoneage technology.

I wish. It was a one-off IBM entry into the the market can't even run most Linux distros because of its proprietary architecture that makes all the HP code shit itself.

I hate 64bit. It erased the 4GB limitation that was keeping bloat in check.

>>
>>59847083
Watching videos in a higher resolution or playing 4K games isn't "accomplishing more".
>>
>>59847266
no, but working with larger values and data sets certainly is
>>
>>59848012
>>59848012
>larger values and data sets

Which only came about due to the previously mentioned bloat.
>>
>>59848012
>without 64bit the government wouldn't be able to catalog and cross-reference everything we do and say on- and off-line

Sounds good to me desu
>>
>>59848060
not really, there have always been problems mainly in the sciences and engineering that dealt with values beyond the limited range representable by 32 bits and datasets that generally required far higher memory capacity than that offered by limited 32-bit addressing

there's a reason the high end jumped to 64-bit as soon as it was available in the early '90s, there's more to computing than the small problems you solve at home, and the less cycles you have to waste fetching from and storing in memory/the more data you can access from large memories instead of slow ass spinning rust, flash and network resources, the better

nobody in the real world cares that it hurts your feelings when a web page doesn't load as fast as you told yourself it should ten years ago

>>59848209
many of the world's most pervasive surveillance states existed long before the internet became mainstream, that's a matter of storage anyway

I was cleaning up my car when I saw this post
I've still got this sitting in my trunk, for it new in the box, only cracked it open for some pictures
Where do I find a mobo for this that won't break the bank? Could make for a cool windows 2k machine
>>
>>59844990
I wonder when we'll have a 32 bit OS since clearly, smaller is better.

All I can tell you is to keep on checking eBay for a cheap 440GX board if it shows up, Xeon boxes, especially desktops were rare as shit and ultra-expensive. I've seen exactly one slot Xeon workstation in my lifetime.

>Could make for a cool windows 2k machine
I run 2K on dual PIII Xeon 500s and it's pretty good, the PII Xeon is balls deep in NT4 territory though, and it would fly with that OS too.

posting from a t6400
Hoping to get a t9600 or Q9100 and stick it in this laptop if it'd be compatible and maybe add some more ram. It'd breath new life into this almost dead POS.

It also needs a new battery and something to dissipate more heat but the performance is the biggest issue.
