Best cable modem-router for price?
Currently looking at a surfboard 6700
don't get a modem with wireless it's fucking gay, your cable company can turn it into a botnet, no joke.
They can push firmware to it and open your wifi to create a guest network for "xfinity free wifi", etc.
just get a wide band docsis 3 modem, some of the older surfboards are still fine.

Just how likely is that to happen and will it eat up bandwidth if by chance it did happen?

Why not though?
Will it make my internet slower over a modem + router or is /g/ just afraid of some botnet boogeyman

built-in router modems are notoriously shitty, unpatched/insecure, and unconfigurable. It's worse in everyway to just a simple discrete modem and discrete router.
and to mention again xfinity(probably others) can open the router to guest wifi, they say it doesn't interfere with your speed, but why even take the chance
hey tech support, will this get the job done?

and I forgot the picture
Working with around a $100 budget, currently using some shitty cisco moden and an old linksys router from 2005
