Is connecting your phone to your monitor instead of using a real PC the next big trend? They tried this before and it didn't take off, but now Samsung is going balls deep into it.
Probably gonna fail. If I have a monitor somewhere around, I also should have a PC. Just like Microsoft failed with their Windows phone to PC thingie.
The idea makes no sense to me. A laptop shell that you plug your phone into would be more logical, if you have a dedicated area for a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, you're just going to use a fucking desktop. Whereas with a laptop you could essentially use it anywhere whenever you needed a keyboard or a larger screen.

eh, for low intensity work(shit done by lots of all-in-one PC's or netbooks) it seems to make more sense than having a bunch of units around.
My plan was to use my tablet as my media player(kodi) but after i bought it, i found out LG killed the MHL/slimport support on their newest Gpad's... If they hadnt, id have consolidated even more shit, rather than buying a chink android TV box... Why not do the same with a phone -> computer? Its not like it would take a bite out of the pc gaming sector, or photo/video editing.

>two cables
my autism can't handle this

Well, yeah. HDMI doesn't carry power.
>>59817974
This is the end goal for computers. Everyone knows this.
>>59819251
They could use a combined usb and hdmi cable, almost all modern monitors have usb ports.
Would look more neat.

They are about 100 years too early.

Or, they could just use a single USB Type C port, utilise Thunderbolt 3 so it can carry data, power and display all in the one. Maybe that's too sensible though.

Further proof it's too soon for this.
Induction wireless power for your entire home and all appliances would eliminate the need of a power cable, and widi would have improved to the point you could wireless lyrics beam the signal from the phone to the display with zero to minimal lag.
Hell, you wouldn't even need a display, just beam it to your AR contact lenses.

I wont upgrade my laptop from 2010 until it literally explodes or until I can't find a cpu or motherboard for this on ebay.
This is the end goal of human computing

Someone tried this. It was highly impractical.

Honestly I think the creators of Westworld had some real forsight on the future of personal computing - all the characters in the show involved in running Westworld had a tri-folded device that was about the size of a slightly larger "phablet" phone, but when unfolded it was about the size of a 9" or 10" tablet. It was also very thin, and obviously had the processing power of at least a no shit-tier laptop.
This will more likely be the case than a bunch of dumb terminals to plug your smartphone into.
>>59819843
they seemed really easy to snap though... that's going to be hard to solve
>>59818004
Nah, modern phones are already more powerful than the shit PCs that a lot of people have lying around, and have the potential to fill all their functions.
Comfortably using those phones with a keyboard and mouse would be great.
>>59817974
This would basically require the phone to run a desktop OS.
>>59820025
Nonsense, all you need is a decent set of office apps. Android is already plenty usable on a desktop.
