Entropy Threadcat /proc/sys/kernel/random/entropy_avail

872 and counting up.
My laptop gives me 3407, but none of my servers have that file, even though they're all Ubuntu 16.04 based. Do server distros handle it differently?
>>59792367
Odd. My Ubuntu 16.10 has it located there. Weird how it doesn't exist.
Is this essentially a measure of uptime?
>>59792418
It is used for /dev/random, it only returns vaule when entropy is high enough and then deletes this amount from entropy, it is here to provide guaranteed level of, well, entrophy
>>59792488
It's not a guaranteed amount, but an approximation
>>59792488
>for /dev/random
What about /dev/urandom?
>>59792523
It'n non-blocking random, it just throw data all the time, not sure it it reduces entropy, my guessing is no.

>>59792523
Kind of. For linux < 4.8 yes. For modern linux no, but the source of randomness for urandom is the same as random.
>>59792418
No. It varies constantly.
>>59792390
Oh, I guess I'm on kernel 4.8 on my laptop and on 4.4 on my servers.

Anime is for children and NEETS.
Get a life you fat shit.
>>59792649
Just because I have a job where I work from home doesn't mean I'm a NEET.
>>59792649
More important question is what's your entropy?
>>59792726
See pic.

>work from home
Funny way of calling yourself unemployed.
3771, T420 on Ubuntu 16.04
>>59792136"cat" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
>>59792776
Strange, it usually is there
Alternatively try `more` or `less`
