What does /g/ think about retro computing?
I want to get into retro computing but I'm unsure of where to start, should I just read a book on Basic?

lmfao OP read your post
you're talking about using old computers like it's a genre of music or something. do you have anything you actually want to use them for, or do you just want to post pictures of them on /g/? I suggest installing cool-retro-term

Nah. Read it in some long pretentious article, and use a good computer.
If you want to try a particular thing, use Qemu

Maybe qemu is tour best friend.
My first computer: IBM PC 8088. Double 5" floppy, no HD, MS-DOS 3. Not really fun.
2nd PC: 486dx, 100 MB HD, MS-DOS 5.5 + windows 2 as file explorer. Best experience ever: tricking config.sys and autoexec.bat, great games (wing commander, lemmings, civilisation 1,...). 1st version of word in text mode. All this was much more gentoo style compared to comfy SPARC x11 stations I had at the uni.
