Hello /g/
Would I get in trouble if I commandeered the name of a competitor's software on the basis of their software being so shitty they are undeserving of such a good and obvious name?
Like, called myself Version 2.0.
The software in question is GUIDO music notation.

This is a legal question not a tech question.
But yes.
Just get your own name for fucks sake.

Well it's different because it's tech. Like, if I started calling myself Ford and saying the existing Ford company didn't deserve the name of Henry Ford, that's one thing, but GUIDO is open source and stuff. It just sucks.
Would anyone bother to lawyer up over that?
For reference, Guido of Arezzo invented sheet music, and thus GUIDO is a music notation format.

It doesn't matter to the law.

You could argue in court that they never should have been granted a trademark because it's a word in common use. But good luck with that.
Dislamer: this is not a legal advice, I am not your lawyer. Get yourself one.

They don't have a trademark. It's an itsy bitsy music software.
