Anyway for a price you did good. Its okay for light games. ME:Andromeda 1080p medium to high. Civ 6 4k almost max. But again I use I7. Movie/youtube watching is great especially with its battery longevity.

I'm using it for engineering shit, portable workstation that I'm going to hookup to my desktop when I'm in the office. I run mainly computational programs like MATLAB, maybe a little bit of computational fluid dynamics.

I'm worried about the lack of hyperthreading being a problem, and also the longevity of the i5-7300HQ - Do you think it'll be relevant for the next 4-5 years or so if I upgarde the RAM?

It should be sufficient enough. I5 and I7 aren't all that different. Of course hyperthreading would be good to have but it is not like I5 is shit as a processor. For a grand you laptop is great.
