Glad I jumped ship from the mess that is GTK DEs to superior KDE. Despite the memes, KDE5 is the fastest, more stable and comfier DE I've ever used, after 15 years of Linux usage.

This is only the case for a maximized window of a program that is not designed to take advantage of GNOME's features. In literally every other case gnome is either equally or more compact.
Also putting the close button right next to the main menu button doesn't strike me as a particularly good design decision.
