Let's approach this from the other side. Let's accept as fact that Microsoft collects data from Windows 10 machines. Microsoft is an enormously wealthy company. Surely they have had lawyers ensure that Windows 10 telemetry abides by the law of land or else Microsoft could end up being sued into oblivion. Also, Windows is sold globally which means it has to abide by laws of numerous countries.

If Windows presents you with the means to turn off nearly all telemetry and then still also makes it clear that it collects and transmits a basic telemetry back to Microsoft, then surely that data is entirely anonymous in all aspects. Imagine the implications if it weren't completely anonymous. There are hospitals and doctors in private practice who use computers with Windows 10 installed. No doubt they have turned off all telemetry believing they were acting in the best interest of their patient's right to privacy. Image now that the so-called "basic telemetry" that Windows 10 collects and transmits included confidential medical info stored on those computers. The law suits would be staggering.

I have to believe that Microsoft's basic telemetry is completely anonymous. There must have been studies done by some pc labs that have discovered what exactly is or isn't transmitted by Windows 10. Where are those studies? Let's put an end to FUD. If Microsoft is guilty, they deserve to be put down and Gates should be sued and imprisoned. Is, on the other hand, Microsoft is respecting right to privacy laws by sending fully anonymous data, then let's move on to something else.

>>
>>59756498
Lincucks would argue that that data can never be completely anonymous and then will post things from the Insider builds, where Microsoft makes perfectly clear that is collecting telemetry..
>>
>>59756498
How is it anonymous when they know your IP address?
Anyway, just assuming that MS doesn't send personal data because they could get into "trouble" is fucking retarded. EU countries are preparing to sue MS because of this right now.

Microsoft is the same thing as other web companies have been doing for decades. The only nobody save for die-hard privacy-rags gave a shit once commercial OS started doing the same thing it suddenly becomes "OMFG T3H BOTNET!" .

Protip: The privacy genie already left the bottle decades ago.

Internet access and meaningful privacy are mutually exclusive terms.

2 things:

1. Botnet will be still there
2. Switching to 8.1 or 7 won't save you from the usual suspects you fucking twats.

You should only really be looking at Windows 10 at this point on a performance and stability level. It still needs polishing before it's as stable as 8.1.

You are an idiot. This isn't the 1990s anymore. The western world has deeply integrated itself with the internet. The old notions of meaningful privacy are gone.

The genie has already been out of the lamp for decades. The masses are just starting to wake-up but they already cross the Rubicon.

The only way is get that back that "privacy" is live without the internet, but it that's becoming more and more difficult.

...is to live without the mainstream internet. What we need to do is develop an internet-like form of telecommunication that exists entirely independent of and entirely separate from the current internet. Perhaps something like a BitTorrent technology is the starting point.

>can keep believing what you want

You missed the point. I don't want to "believe". I want to know for sure. There has to be studies out there somewhere. The public is convinced that Windows 10 gathers data and transmits it. What I want to know is:
1) Does Windows 10 actually gather data
2) If so, what exactly are the specifics of the data it gathers
3) Where is that data stored locally on my pc
4) Does Windows 10 actually transmit that data
5) If so, to where specifically, how often, and what protocols are used?

Paranoia is a useless indicator of the threat level. I want to see empirical evidence of a Windows 10 pc actually gathering and transmitting data. If it can be engineered, it can be reverse engineered. If Windows 10 is in fact gathering and transmitting data, it can be prevented from doing so. Show me an comprehensive empirical study of a Windows 10 pc gathering and transmitting data. Let's examine that data and see if it contains any kind of personal information. Short of that, this is all just FUD. Let's put an end to FUD.
