What were these things called, and what was their purpose? I'm set dressing this scene and I need to incorporate some computing technology from the 60s. When I think of 60s computers I think of these weird tape recorder looking things.
Would it be accurate to incorporate these machines into a 60s setting, and what is their exact purpose and what are they called?
They're mainframes, big-ass computers used by corporations, universities, and government agencies before the days of microcomputers and personal computers.

that's a paper tape reader, so yeah a long sting of punch cards is about right
