Imagine a world where Rust replaced C. Disregard safety benefits.
Just imagine if the interface needed to communicate with any given peripheral or embedded device was available for download through Cargo.
No header files. No fumbling around on a manufacturer's website or instruction manual with the vague hope that you will find what you need. Just a working API with a single crate include, which you can use by just following the types and autocompleting with Racer.

What world do you live in?
Rust is not and will never be as fast as C.

A world where hardware and lab equipment manufacturers make a living by selling hardware.
I just wish they didn't provide useless C API's that are god-awfully annoying to install and compile, or "hassle-free Matlab or Labview interfaces" that force you to use Matlab or Labview.

this.

Frankly, I don't care about speed. I care about being able to use other peoples code without jumping through dozens of hoops.
Anything that is written in C/C++, even (especially?) FOSS, is god-awfully annoying to get running on your own machine.
