Because I like the auto overclocking feature to push a few buttons and overclock, then when I'm done, undervolt and underclock. With more efficiency and less energy needed for the same clocks as the 1700.

And I plan to use gpu pass through for a Windows VM gaming with 6 cores, and using the other 2 as the host. If I had known a 12 and 16 core was on the horizon I would have bought that instead.

reeeee I was about to pull the trigger on an 1800x build before I saw the 16 core rumours

now I'm waitfagging for that but considering throwing together a cheaper 1700 setup to use for a few months first (which can be retired to home server duty or something afterwards)

I was considering dual xeons or a 6950X

A 16 core AMD chip would likely be chasing the same market at a lower price (but also probably suits my needs better)

Currently waitfagging the 1600(x) but I'm a bit nervous about buying in at this early stage. Choosing the right board and RAM seems to be a minefield at the moment. Enlighten me, /g/.
