was thinking of upgrading to Ryzen 1600X from my Skylake i7-6700K once ITX mobos come out with X300 chipset. discovered that my fast ram doesn't work at rated speeds on ryzen. my dual ranked dimms (G.Skill TridentZ DDR4-3200 @ 14-14-14-34) wont clock to my specifications as they do on my i7-6700K.

Maybe some BIOS updates will happen that will let this RAM shine, but totally pointless right now.

You know this is FAKE, right?

BIOS has nothing to do with performance, performance comes from the CPU, not motherboard, if your USB is bugged then you need a BIOS update, if your chip is shit performance then you don't need a BIOS update.

BIOS deals with P-states, which are rather critical when performance is in question, but I don't think this is sorely due to BIOS updates, Windows updates should do some lifting in this case as well

Your RAM will most likely work and if not, there's gonna be a BIOS update coming. The issue here is "upgrading" from a 6700k to a 1600x - not even a 1800x would qualify as an upgrade unless you're doing heavily multithreaded workloads.
>>
>>59708427
You got a Skylake that's the same shit as Kabylake, just clocked slightly lower, are you retarded? Why would you upgrade?

If anything your upgrade should either be a 10 core or higher.

Dude, your 6700k will absolutely trash a 1600x in gaming.

Just overclock it a bit and it'll wreck an 1800x too. Hell it'll probably be a bit faster at stock.

>>59710771
Well, it doesn't, unless the OS you're running is shit, or the "performance" you're trying to clock is during boot time.

Early OSs used to have a parenthetical relationship between launch chaining and syscall chaining, as follows:
>hardware is hard-wired to start BIOS
>BIOS starts [bootloader which in turn kills itself after starting] kernel
>kernel supports starting programs
>program queries kernel
>kernel queries BIOS
>BIOS operates hardware

Now it's usually more like this:
>hardware is hard-wired to start BIOS
>BIOS kills itself after starting [bootloader which in turn kills itself after starting] kernel
>kernel supports starting programs
>program queries kernel
>kernel bypasses BIOS and directly operates hardware

Most of these gaming kids don't understand technology anyhow. They just shitpost to bait people. Those who do actually know their shit do not pick 'teams' they pick whichever has the best bang for buck and not at launch. Intel and Nvidia have had their share of shitty launches in the past. The trouble is most of the posters on this board are too fucking young to remember or care. Anyhow. The wait meme is right. For *ALL* company launches. Buying a brand new platform at launch is stupid. I purchased a RX480 which I enjoy. But I jumped the shark somewhat since a couple of months later I could have purchased a better binned version with lower power usage and higher overclocking potential. Being at the cutting edge is always risky.

not even other tasks that leverage 16 threads, do you play games and have a video on in the background? maybe a long youtube podcast or something?

Do you have other programs open at the same time as you game?

Do you shut everything down when you want to game and boot up fresh?

Most benchmarks are done when the computer has a bare minimum of other applications running, not a real world use scenario, at least in my experience.
>>
>>59714505
>Do you have other programs open at the same time as you game?

Nope. How can you be watching a youtube video while gaming? You can't be engaged fully in both, especially not if you are playing multiplayer. I don't understand people who do this. An i7 is sufficient for background applications, but I understand that amd is closing the performance gap between the 1700 and i7.
>>
>>59711467
>>59708834
Its not boot times. Its power regulation which is managed by the UEFI (Which isnt basic at all. Its the firmware that runs the motherboard and the chipset underneath.)

But most importantly. Which is a point that all the shills in this thread have ignored and tried to sweep under the rug. "BIOS" updates contain microcode. And if you seriously deny that microcode impacts performance, maybe you should remind Intel of that too. And then they'll stop releasingg their many updates per quarter.

The differences between Ryzen and Kaby Lake are that Ryzen is getting updates every week which can't piggyback on kernel updates because kernel patches aren't released that frequently. And Kaby Lake is just Sky Lake with better power management and a newer chipset. All the microcode debugging for this arch is already done. Its no secret that Ryzen is the testing platform for when AMD released Naples for the server market.

Now fuck off.
>>
Will Naples bring the Shoah to Intel finally?

And this is completely useless for me. I want those i3s and i5s tested against ryzen with 100 tabs open in chrome and youtube 1080p video in the background.
>>
Lads, is there info about Ryzen hackintosh?
>>
>>59714598
you already see this with the i7, compared to ryzen, the i7 is 95-99% used in games that use 4 cores, that means if anything happens in the background, massive fucking stutter. The i5 and i3 are worse then this in real world use.

>>
>>59714591
honestly if intel wasn't retarded and didn't make new sockets every few weeks they'd be looked at as a good idea for servers.. but when AMD is even "about on par" (not to mention naples is gonna btfo them) it's a better buy, since you can upgrade with the same socket.. that's why TITAN went for opterons even though they never took that upgrade to piledriver
it's weird though honestly like, ebay has $5000 chips for $100 a year after they come out usually
fucking people needing that 1% upgrade
>>
>>59714625
The good think is that if I can't build an Ryzen hackintosh I will have plenty of Intel Xeons to fuck with it, albeit with inferior performance.

>[Triggered]
>>
>>59714654
yea, maybe.. you'll see some pretty high tier xeons coming on ebay I bet. some with quad QPI and can have a 4 CPU motherboard rofl

Does hackintosh support anything that OS X doesn't, ever? I haven't done any without simple stuff like i5's or i3's and no GPU

if so then maybe ryzen will work but I thought they were pretty specific on hardware so you might have to wait for OS X to support ryzen chips in their laptops or some shit then it's a good go

if you give me an iso I can just make a bootable flash drive with I'll try it right now..

>>
>>59714730
>their shitty OS can't work with a grub bootloader what the fuck?
It can, the problem is it will work only in Apple Hardware.
The macOS framework first locates if there's a driver for a SMC chip (A glorified fan controller) and then load some keys from it. These keys are used to decrypt key processes like Finder, Dock and some APIs. Also, their drivers are loaded in function of what Apple motherboard it's running, and their correspondent ACPI. As I understand, Grub can't modify and patch the ACPI on the fly like Clover can, so it will no boot, even with FakeSMC driver, because drivers will talk chinese to the motherboard.
Grub Works, but only on Macs. In other mobos you need a bootloader capable of patching Darwin on the fly or redirect the ACPI of the drivers, or some shit like that.
>stopped using both overnight 99% of software would work on loonix and ganoo in about 2 days
Haha, keep dreaming. Probably will took 5 years in the best of cases. The first two big companies will try to forcefully end the balkanization in GNU/Linux platform and fix some shit in the graphics and kernel before attemping to uniform the API there.
Or worst, they will shill Android as a desktop operating system.

It looks like the difference has narrowed down to 5-10 FPS. Not exactly something to celebrate, shilltel. And keep in mind the AMD setup will still be cheaper because it comes with a cooler and doesn't require an overpriced OC-capable motherboard.

>>59724461
You're both retarded for watching a guy with an obvious agenda, he's the same as Linus, a worthless paid fag.
>>
>>59724461
Yup. The cooler is decent and Ryzen 7 can be OC'd to 4 Ghz even on the cheapest of B350 boards because of the voltage wall. AMD's been kicking ass lately (e.g bios updates, infinity fabric ram boost, consistently good drivers).
>>
>>59724135

All he needs to do now is test an AMD gpu on Ryzen.
>>
>>59724541
AMD fucked up for not bundling the wraith MAX with the 1700X/1800X.
>>
>>59724498
Gamer Nexus is the only one that does a pretty good and well documented research, this new video shows the REAL improvement of all those bios and OS updates, meanwhile other Youtubers are just bullshiting showing unreal improvements with no proof at all.

GN is trash like 99% of youtube reviewers.
They're possibly even worse because of all the company drama they're involved with.
>>
>>59724590
Yes I'm literally crying tears of rage just like your retarded strawman over 3.5 FPS despite that I own an i7 and Nvidia graphics card.
>>
>>59724588

It's all meaningless if the driver for the GPU gimps the CPU.

>6900k OCd tanks in minimum frames

Great fucking review, you fucking idiot.
Why do these retards put these reviews out when nonsense results like this exist?
>>
>>59724646
yeah, but remember the top AMD GPU is a fucking RX480? Now we wait® for Vega and redo the tests.

* Fury X
>>
>>59724669

I'd that the only way to create a CPU bottleneck?

Think carefully before you answer.
>>
>>59724669
Top AMD current GPU is the Fury X, which is like 10% slower than a 1070, that's more than fine for 1080p and light 1440p
>>
>>59724698

We're trying to create a CPU bottleneck to test the drivers though.

Nvidia GraphWorksTM

[spoiler]
Requires Geometry Engine 5.0 (Volta only)[/spoiler]
>>
>>59724716
So lower the resolution? Historically Nvidia did much better than AMD on lower resolution.

Optimally if you can't wait for Vega just test 480 vs 1060 or Fury X vs a slightly underclocked 1070.

These types of graphs are always dumb no matter who it is meant to be comparing.
>>
>>59724779
That's the fucking joke, and you aren't meant to point it out.
>>
>>59724820
Doesn't make the joke any better.
>>
>>59724560
Yeah that kinda sucks. But the Spire is pretty capable. It can do 3.9 Ghz.
>>
>>59724762

It's like you faggots learned nothing watching adoreds video.

Crossfire 480s gave Ryzen a 30fps jump over a single 1070 on Ryzen.

If the gap is closed similarly with say a Fury X and a 1070 in the same benchmark, then we know we have a problem with Nvidia drivers. And all these test results show is a slight improvement.
>>
>>59724653
6900k could have been throttling, can't explain the low min frames otherwise.

Just logging something like CPU usage/temps should have shown this, too bad the fag is too retarded to have this running instead just posts results without doing any investigation.
>>
>>59724617
Still doesn't change the fact that's it's a worse CPU than an intel at half its price.
>>
>>59724846

He doesn't want to show how over rated his bullshit testing is.

AMD shills got BTFO a long time ago.

They are resistant to facts, so it doesn't matter, they will always live in their small bubbles.

Seeing as a BIOS update fixed a core timeout error* on my i7-3700k.. I believe it.

Lower resolution. So throw a 1070 and a Fury X in the lowest resolution you can.

Then benchmark and see what the results were. If the gap on Ryzen and Nvidia cards is there, then all these tests are fucking garbage until Nvidia gets off their ass and releases a patch. Or AMD stops jerking each other off and releases Vega.
