Wait....so you live in a first world country, have a job, and STILL use a plastic laptop intentionally?
>>
metal laptops don't close correctly if you drop them even 1 inch

i don't understand how apple managed to market aluminium as a premium material
it's SODA CANS
>>
I know this is some kind of new age bait/shill thread, but plastic laptops crack and chip instead of bend, making them much sturdier than aluminium.

oh you

>metal is objectively stronger
Machinist fag here, depends what you mean by stronger. Aluminium has fucking garbage plastic deformation which is why it's shit for a consumer device that might get dropped.
>>
>>59706798
What does the physical sturdiness matter? Do you routinely use your laptop for self-defense or for driving nails or opening beer bottles?
I've had my messenger bag strap break and fall on cobblestone with not much padding at all and my 5 series Latitude was alright.

If macbooks are so great, why do they never bother to make the keyboards good? There's no feedback, no definition between keys, it's like something you'd find on a $200 chromebook.

replacing a rigid plastic frame and a magnesium alloy chassis with an aluminium frame doesn't make devices more durable, anon, it does the opposite by making it far more prone to bending

pic related, it's the metal chassis inside my """plastic""" laptop

it's funny how most macfags pay for their macbook on a payment plan and they baby the shit out of their new macbook by buying a silicone cover and keyboard cover and even keep the sheet of foam that came in the box to protect the screen from the keyboard.

I see this shit all the time in uni.

>>
My old laptop is an Asus and it's made of aluminum. I liked it a lot really especially because the screen part was also made of aluminum and it felt like it couldn't bend even under force. Would always just toss it in my bag and for four years it never changed a bit.
>>
once you go Mac, you never go back :^)
>>
>>59708209
Yep because you're too poor to buy anything else for the next 10 years.
And, of course, because you don't want to admit that you made a terrible decision so you begin to center your entire lifestyle around that piece of crap you bought.
>>
Plastic is objectively stronger than metal, by weight. OP's comic status: Tyrannosaurus Rekt.
>>
rare poster here

I like Thinkpads because they're easy to fix and they feel like they're made for engineers. I love the fact that all I have to do to replace my keyboard is remove 2 screws.

It would be great if they were made of metal though, won't deny that.
>>
>>59708224
>being too poor to buy a laptop once warranty expires

>>
>>59708280
They have the inner cage of magnesium which is really sturdy. What would be great is an equivalent of that in the lid to prevent it from bending and damaging the screen. I would even care if it makes it a centimeter thicker
>>
>>59708188
this is some next level retardiation
>>
>>59706798
There's a reason they don't use metal for the exterior of cars anymore. You want plastic because it can absorb impacts and retain its original shape.

My 7 year old macbook still works fine
>>
>but dented Macs are u-ugly...
More than that. I've got an old 2009 Macbook Pro with two dents in it. One cracked the screen, one rendered the ethernet port inoperable because you can't fit a fucking ethernet cord in it anymore. Dents have the potential to hamper usability.

Also, the hard disk controller on the motherboard is failing (not the disk itself, I've tried fixing that), as well as the DVD drive. I no longer trust Apple with build quality.

Anyways, ideal building material would be something like carbon fiber, but plastic is good enough for machines not focused on durability.
>>
>>59706798
Lots of plasics have better strength to weight ratio than metal(esp. Aluminium)

Just because it's metal doesn't mean it's stronger.
