Hey /g/, I currently have a laptop screen lying around not doing anything. The laptop it's from had its motherboard damaged, but the screen itself is fine. It has a 30-pin connector.

I'm looking to make it into a desktop monitor, and I'm trying to find the right LCD controller board for it. Problem is, I can't find one with the exact model number -- LP140WHU(TP)(B2). However, a lot of the kits I'm looking at give a range of models they work with, which makes me think maybe it will still work even if it doesn't say so explicitly, especially since it's only the final bit (the B2) that's different. Exactly how inter-compatible are these things?

If it says it's compatible with your model, it probably is. It's not like there's no standard

i was looking about making a small project like this, most shit it was always asking about dumb people for turning laptops into 2nd screen via network aka shit
then i found exactly what i was looking for >http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Convert-a-Laptop-LCD-into-an-External-Monit/?ALLSTEPS
from what i read if the seller is good you contact them before making the purchase so they could tell if you if they have a board right for youre lcd panel (since they flash the board themselves before sellint it to you)

just be careful who you buy from OP, I bought a controller from amazon and it didn't work with my LCD. I decided the hassle was way too much to send it back and wait several more weeks to get a return. I wound up getting one from ebay and it worked great. I will tell you, building a frame or stand for these things is a pain in the ass, but its fun to have a new screen. Definitely email the seller. Avoid amazon, go with ebay.
