You have to consider clock speed.

The Ryzen chip is clocked 3% lower than the i5, 9% lower than the G4560 and 15% lower than the i3. Most of the time it handily beat the G4560 and i3 despite the higher clock speeds and fell ~10% behind the i5 which is to be expected with 3% lower clock speed and 5-7% lower IPC. Fallout 4 was the exception but that's no surprise because Gamebyro was a victim of the intel compiler.

With an overclock the Ryzen chip will meet or exceed the i5 performance for roughly the same price. In titles that benefit from more than 4 threads, it will perform better too.

If anything the problem is not that they're optimized for Intel, but that they're not optimized for AMD and for Ryzen's quirks. Games don't benefit too much from HT/SMT (can be observed in i5 vs. i7 at the same clock too), so 4C/8T Ryzen doesn't have much of an advantage there in the first place, while the Intel CPU has straight-up better IPC and clock speed. These results are rather expected.

I bought the Asus motherboard and Ryzen 1700X. The motherboard says on their website that it supports 3200 MHz RAM but it only goes to 2133 MHz on my computer. I did buy 3200 MHz RAM but it can't use it fully yet, I need to wait for BIOS updates. I'm pretty sure there will be a difference once my RAM goes from 2133 to 3200. Nobody wants to admit it, but Ryzen is history repeating itself. It's Bulldozer all over again. Same disappointing performance, same bad single core performance, same shitty scores in every D3D benchmark compared to Intel.

Even the people defending it are making the same arguments: "But everything is becoming increasingly multi threaded! Wait a few months and every game and application will make use of 16+ threads!". Well it was said during Bulldozer and Piledriver, and 6+ years later it never happened.

The same youtuber redid the tests with the RX480 and the results are completely different for half the games.

On average the 1400 is about 30-40% higher fps/utilization than the 7400 paired with the RX480. And it's still better with the 1060, but held back even more with lower utilization.

Heres the video he is talking about if you are curious. If 1400s reliably overclock to 3.8ghz it looks like it will be a pretty good value. Of course the bad thing about this is you will likely be seeing the same performance with the 1500-1600x.

The 1500X will probably more reliably hit 3.9 or even 4.0.
And supposedly the 1500X will have 16MB L3 cache instead of 8MB, but that doesn't seem to be confirmed yet.

Obviously the 1500X won't have 7700k perf, no one thought that. But it's clearly going to beat the 7600k on games that actually utilize it properly, as simulated tests have shown.
