I worked at a retail store 5 years ago.
I make $130,000 annually now writing complicated software for a respectable company. I don't care if 'complicated software' sounds meme tier.
I am entirely self taught, everything I know was learned on the job or in a coffee shop somewhere out of text books I bought off amazon after talking to educators or from hours and hours of grueling frustration and little sleep.
This includes, design patterns, algorithms, discrete math, statistics, OS(s), shells, databases...everything you would get from B.S Computer Science.
I am more competent, adaptable, less socially awkward than almost all of my peers.
Holy fuck it has been a rough experience.

And yet you're here posting frogs.
So why the frog face?

>Holy fuck it has been a rough experience.
Lots and lots of jobs where the expectations of the business owners were way beyond the entire engineering staff. Lots of instances of being forced to write spaghetti shit code because unrealistic time constraints and requirements.
If you're in your early 20s and you want to do this, don't go the self taught route.
Just go to a community college, take out some loans and work hard in school. The self taught route is fucking rough. I've seen some shit man. I think I have PTSD.
proof?
do you have a college degree? I know you don't have a CS degree, but do you have any college on your record?
how did you get your first programming job- through contacts or just showing off your projects?
>>59667794
Self taught combined with theory is godly.
Are you getting cucked by CS degrees? you sound insecure
>>59667794
School doesn't teach shit besides theory. It won't prepare you for the real world. The only thing of worth you get from school is the diploma.
>>59667822
This is correct.

>>59667753
Well you are earning now aren't you? Than what's the point of posting sadfrogs now? do you want us to say "oh wow you are so cool a self taught programmerer who taught himself in free time while working at wendys?
yeah bullshit cuckfag, you steal money from your mum
>>59668474
pretty much this

I went to uni for physics but didn't graduate, it was a good university. I do get some credit there
First gig was complete shit. Terrible pay, way too much work, lots of bullshit to put up with, small start up. Next employer saw I put up with all that shit until they went bankrupt and still didn't quit, saw I was little better than junior at that point, still gave me shitty pay but much better than first job.
After that it was just slowly building up good jobs, good references and a marketable skill set.
