That isnt designed for headphones though. That is to increase strength in the cable for other uses.

You can get different materials for headphones.

It stay straight and doesn't develop kinks or bends. I don't care for it in my headphones though. I use that plastic braid in my car and for cables coming out of my computer's PSU.
