Everybody who supports any distro besides Solus is a *shill.* Reminder to report all non-Solus posts in this thread in order to keep the anti-Solus shills out. We never shill here, we just state facts.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
>>
>>59618742
It uses SystemD.

The packages are maintained by the head Solus developers, and software can be packaged by the community, but the head Solus developers inspect each package, insuring nothing is malicious. I've packaged some things for Solus without issue, and they're quite helpful if there's a mistake with the package.

No, but it already has a lot of packages in the repository, not to mention the third party repositories, but Solus is built for the desktop, so it won't have all the server software that you may find in other distros such as Ubuntu or the AUR. I know you can't provide any answers kevin, you're the same moron who opens invalid tickets because you're too dumb to install ffmpegthumbnailer. I had the same idea. Turns out solus has the most limited repos I've ever seen in any distro. It really feels like a hobby project that shouldn't be taken seriously. But by all means, see for yourself.

>>59619445
Yeah I normally wouldn't but since I have another distro and windows installed on my other drives I might as well give it a shot. I don't really expect it to replace arch anytime soon.

Fair enough, it looks kinda nice out of the box, I'll give it that. But once you start actually using it you see how limited it really is. It has potential but it's just a bit of a joke atm.

>I am NOT shilling.
You ARE shilling. But why? I doubt they're paying you? Is it because you just want to be accepted by the solus community as more than just a user? Is that why you're trying to open invalid tickets? You want to fit in somewhere? Help me understand.
