I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. I've packaged some things for Solus without issue, and they're quite helpful if there's a mistake with the package.

solus with i3 on a craptop is actually really nice. easy to get into, easy to shitpost and watch youtube. multiple workspaces for fullscreen netflix and just switch between irc and your tv show. plus it works out of the box, unlike debian and arch on proprietary setups.

No issues with setup, and budgie was neat. It's pretty comfy. I do miss the AUR though, so I couldn't make i tmy main.
