Besides gayming, where will virtual reality end up in the next 3-10 years?

Will it replace day to day synapse functions in our brains?

>Besides gayming

If by VR you mean strapping a screen to your eyes, it flopped even for gaming retard. VR will not be in gaming in the next years. VR will not be.
>>
>>59608699
How truly uneducated you are.

Vr is only getting bigger, OP, with many more applications than gaming. For example, they are using VR to successfully treat soldiers with PTSD.
>>
Porn duh

I bet all the tranny lovers are going to love the sensation of a cock hitting the back of their throat
>>
>>59609085
I have a Vive and VR porn is fucking retarded.

I tried it once and stopped.

Neckbeards will probably continue using it with VR Gear or some shit.
>>
>>59608481
I can see it possibly replacing, or at least being an alternative to, monitors.
Within a VR headset you could have as many virtual monitors as you need to, or just one huge one. You could still use regular keyboard and mouse input.

Going to have to disagree. Far so far seems to be a complete flop. Maybe things will eventually turn around but right now it's looking bad.
>>
I want a vive but there aren't many good things for it and there still pretty expensive.
>>
>>59609163
It's a 5 billion dollar industry you dolt.

It's not just about the Vive or Oculus. It's about the future.

The technology we have now is only the beginning it will get better as time progresses.

It's not like 3D movies, which was a complete flop.

Theres only one thing that can truly save VR, and thats affordability.
Most people dont have a VR headset because they're so expensive, no matter how interesting they are. If theres not that many people buying them, not many devs are gonna jump on board to develop anything fully featured for them.
The problem is so far that every developer of a VR device has focussed on how advanced they can be, and havent thought about the price. Your average user doesnt need something crazy powerful.
Of course there is the cardboard, but thats not quite enough. There needs to be a middle ground.
I think Qualcomms VRDK could come close to that. Its got leap motion built in for interactivity, and its a standalone device which means your not tethered to your PC.

vr will stay a gayming meme for at least the next 10 years, will likely completely die off commercially before it comes back.

ar will likely get big in the next 5-10 years (google gayass) as they tie it with smartphones and facebook and pokemon go, normies are gonna eat it up.

>tfw I always thought vr would be like transferring your consciousness into cyberspace, but instead it's just stupid gaymen meme glasses

Guess I'll have to wait another 20 years
>>
Nothing except phone VR will be viable until the nausea problem is fixed. The simple fact that it's totally impossible to move at normal speeds in VR without feeling nauseous makes the tech completely useless, and that's a sad thing to say. I'd honestly settle for automated Dramamine injectors at this point.

>pokemon go
Which crashed and burned. And which will always crash and burn because there are several fundamental problems with AR gaming that cannot be resolved.

>cheating
GPS data is, and will likely remain, incredibly easy to forge. The input is simply too easy to replicate mechanically and too difficult to verify as real data coming from the GPS is wildly inaccurate, you can't say, ban people for tunneling through buildings or jumping three hundred meters suddenly.

>variety
You have functionally two options in AR gaming and they both suck. You either make everywhere the same, which makes your game really boring and bland No Man's Sky style, or you make certain places interesting and the rest boring (what Pokemon Go did). This alienated easily half of the people I know from Pokemon Go because they just got screwed by their location, it left them unable and worse, unwilling to play.

>balance
In addition to this areas may simply not be balanced because they're basically autogenerated, rather than hand crafted by a human. I remember when Pokemon Go was a big thing it essentially just encouraged you to walk up and down alongside the river because all the Pokestops fell in a line along there and the rest of the town was just dead space.

Maybe it could work if you totally removed the competitive element so people didn't feel fucked over by their location, but I'm not sure what you replace it with, mobile games tend to be vapid at the best of times, removing that would probably just make it worse.

>muh gorillion dollar industry meme

Jesus pal you're a fucking idiot aren't you? You can invest a fortune into manufacturing anything and it automatically becomes a gorillion dollar industry. It's just a buzzphrase used to scam poor assholes like you into accepting the idea. Literally all you need is that people have expendable income and that your currency isn't inflated as fuck.
>>
>>59610970
>t. Poorfag with no imagination.

It's ok, John. We get it. You're poor.
>>
>>59608481
it would be great if vr headsets could replace monitors, so i could navitate my desktop in vr in high resolution like 16k x 16k pixels or something
>>
>>59608481
>Virtual reality becomes so realistic that people have all their instinctual fears and inhibitions
>Your WWII action shooter game consists of you sitting in a corner somewhere playing handheld video games (brought from the future) and avoiding eye contact with women
>Your Grand Theft Auto game involves you working a dead end job as a storepacker for a retail chain, living in a shitty apartment, being a pathetic loser and avoiding eye contact with women
>In the new Star wars RPG you're just a lowly son of a blaster salesman, playing space minecraft and avoiding eye contact with women
>>
>>59608481
You think screen addiction is bad now? You ain't seen nothin' yet.
>>
>>59608481
I don't get this picture. Is the author implying that being an early adopter of a piece of shit console like the Switch is somehow heroic?
>>
>>59611947
No, it's just an image of a gaymer enjoying the deaths of real life people on his couch.
>>
>>59610546
It died in the 90s. VR has not made any improvements since the 80s, really. Resolution doesn't mean shit and decent screens-for-faces don't even fucking work well today.
