How do you get a job as a programmer if you have no references? All jobs nowdays require past working experience which I do not have as I am post grad.

You should never have graduated without a job lined up.
You're supposed to do internships every summer until you get an offer from a place you like or get enough experience to get a half decent resume. If you can't get 3 under your belt by the end of your senior year you should've allowed your schedule to slip so you can get another summer.
