Samsung sells a lot of loss-leader phones to keep its market-share figures up.
People like you obsess over market-share so they cater to you.
Samsung also sell some "quality" phones that cost the same as iPhones. That establishes their brand as one the public thinks of as a known brand so they can buy the cheaper phones with confidence.
That way they make a profit but also boost their sales numbers. It's also why they don't make as much per phone sold as Apple.
