I am looking at Walnut or Pine. Both complete opposites of each other.

Pine to match keycaps, walnut to contrast with them.
>>
>>59527826
I tend to go for contrast over matching in most cases, to add a bit of visual variety.
It'd pretty much be a big slab of beige otherwise.

Just received a cherry G80 with black switches in the mail.
It was hillariously cheap on ebay so I got it.

can't really compare them since i've never tried gateron blacks but mx blacks are literally great

Also is this in the Japanese Kit 1 sketchy? They have the same set on their page for more money for some reason, also is it really worth it to spend $85 on just keycaps, how's shipping/aliexpress experience never used it before

Lubing them will only get you so far as well, they are scratchy by default so lubing will help it feel uniform across the edges of multiple unit keys but they wont do a lot for the switches smoothness.

first of all do you know if it can communicate over ps/2. Some of these old keyboards use AT/XT interfaces, in which case an active adapter would be needed. If you know the model # you can ask on deskthority as this general is currently dying. Over the past month these threads are barely reaching 200 posts, so I suggest you ask elsewhere

This just arrived today from Amazon USA. Didn't feel like forking out $100 to $200 AUD on a meme razor keyboard so this fit my budget nicely.

I've been using membrane keyboards for the last number of years and the mechanical keys on this thing are a damn sight better. Noise is a bit loud but even that has a slight to it charm I guess.

heh, I'm good with those

gat browns are for a birthday gift keyboard; swiss ISO TKL, keycaps from >>59538142
(laser etched PBT), gons PCB (>>59542730), white backlighting, plate from my first keyboard (pic related, don't seem to have any meme pictures of that one), and a wooden sandwich-style case. Shit's gonna be tight.

I'm not sure about the gat browns, but I've hear they're pretty nice, and while browns are shit, they still do have their place, namely for limp-wristed fags who don't like linears. Which the recipient literally is.

Well technically, yes.

Honestly in this case you'd be better off getting an infinity. You might be able yo do something cool with the useless screen too.

And flipping the mapping is the easy part.

They're better than Cherry ones for sure. I don't think the tactile bump is that helpful or noticeable compared to reds for example, specially when you're typing fast, but it's still quite nice and doesn't feel scratchy like Cherry browns do. I was indifferent about them at first, but I've sorta grew to like them.

Went with browns, the store didn't sell any clears, although I would have gotten them if they were there. Blues are a bit too loud, while I haven't tried reds yet. I'll try looking for a couple of videos of keycap pulling so that I don't screw up the process, in any case.

Why are nice keycaps so god damn expensive? I want a set so bad but I can't bring myself to spend $100 on something that is completely aesthetic. Some of the sets on pimp my keyboard are so nice it's hard to imagine what they would look like in person.

There are a handful of times each year where a numpad proves useful, but yeah, it's generally not enough to justify the extra desk space consumed and the awkward and unconformable offsetting of the alphabetical keys two miles to the left. For me the best solution is to just keep a separate USB numpad around.

Kinda feel the same about Home/End/arrow cluster too, they roll up into a Fn layer really well and don't need to have dedicated keys. 60% is the perfect sweet spot.
>>
>>59567375
why did you expect your windows button to say "code" on it after you designed it with a grey windows button?
>>
>>59567515

That is why 1800 is best layout.

>>
>>59567375
>>59567436

WASD is pretty awesome actually.

I was hesitant about them, but my friend got a set from them two years ago and even after heavy use the keycaps still look fantastix.
>>
>>59567553
I wish winkeyless would design an 1800 layout board. I love their low-profile and super stable acrylic cases, but your layout options are so limited. 96-key would be nice too.
>>
>>59567596

Their EX X2 is close. It just removed the space between alphas and numpad. More compact actually.

I am tempted to get one and outfit it with their new hotswap sockets.
>>
>>59567609
I've got one of those and it's nice, I just really like the aesthetics of the 1800 layout, with a small separation between the numpad, main cluster and arrow keys that also makes them all easier to find by feel.
>>
>>59567553
1800 is better than full size for sure, but I'd rather have the numpad on the left side of the board. Also just nuke the arrows

Not him but also looking at the mentioned boards - might the KBP-V80-W-VINTAGE be a better alternative? I'll be using Cyrillic EnjoyPBTs

would you guys recommend IBM's keyboards that ARENT model M? I want something a little less clacky and smaller than my model M, and in black, sub $30, for a secondary build. e.g. pic related, is it actually quality or just IBM brand name?

IBM rubber domes are fine, tho if you want you can get an M2 from a thrift store
>>

Indeed, they do a version with black keycaps and either red+blue or red+green backlighting.

Yeah right, I don't go outside. Can I assume all Model Kb-XXXX are rubber dome and quality enough for /mkg/ standards or should I keep an eye for specific ones?

IBMs are just regular rubber domes. Personally I'd go with a k120 or that Dell one

Yeah. But go for a model F.

is this worth it? how loud is it , and how does the feel change, and lastly, does it really matter which language i choose? i'm the kind of guy who doesn't mind just taping on labels if need be

>is this worth it
At that price yes.
>how loud is it
about as loud as MX blues
>how does the feel change
Better than any cherry switch
>does it matter what language
does it matter to you? idk

Keep in mind, Matias boards have a shitty body, shitty quality control, and shitty key caps with no good replacements. At that price though it's hard not to recommend.

disregard keyboards, give me a fucking chair guide

No, I experienced the same thing

I think they recently changed the mold.

MX Silent (and purportedly speed silver) are also smoother because they naturally made new molds for them.
