stop using opus on your portable player. use a codec actually designed for it, like vorbis. opus is meant for realtime online streaming, vorbis for general file use.

opus is more cpu-intensive to decode than vorbis, reducing your battery life a lot for very little gain compared to vorbis.

if youre gonna use patrician technology, at least possess the corresponding knowledge, you plebs

Show how much.

look it up. i dont know the ratio but i felt it a lot in my battery life that shrunk by more than half for 64kbps

show us how much faggot

this is 1 place to start. i dont remember what my original source besides experience was. it shoukd hardly matter because we knew opus is a more complex and compressed format and thus requires more cpu work
>>
>>59525766
*should *know
>>
>>59525535
Vorbis is obsolete.

OPUS replaces it completely, for all uses.

Time to accept that, anon OP.
>>
>>59525799
i remember tagging issues with opus files. has all that been sorted out yet so it works exactly like an ogg vorbis file? has cpu (battery) usage been compared properly?
>>
>>59525766
so I should use AAC?
>>
>>59526014
no, ogg vorbis
>>
>>59526022
it has lower times though?
>>
>>59526122
lower time is better...
>>
Wtf? Who cares about any of this. The girl u like uses a YouTube to mp3 converter. Enjoy your file types and chair smell
>>
>>59526166
if she does, i dont like her, whoever she is

>vorbis_128k.ogg 475.53% realtime Decode time - 36.99s 50.47MHz
>opus111b_128k.opus 490.68% realtime Decode time - 35.85s 48.91MHz

Doesn't that mean Opus is better for battery life?
>>
>>59526137
yea, that's why I'm using aac. dumbass

yep I'm pretty energetic
>>
>>59526586
yea, it's decoding faster, so it'd use the cpu less in realtime
>>
>>59525535
I use AAC because it has better tuned encoders. That's really what matters most with lossy.
>>
I have a 4000 mAh internal + 8500 mAh external battery in the case and can listen to music non-stop for 14 fucking days.

>implying I give a fuck about battery consumption during music playback

And yes, all my music was transcoded from CD > FLAC (and stored) > Opus 128 Kbps.

Deal with it.
>>
You're wrong, OP. Decoding of Opus at bitrates which use CELT blocks only, as opposed to SILK or hybrid blocks (as music will) is more efficient than Vorbis decoding.

Plus, the Opus codec achieves ABX transparency sooner and gets better ABC-HR scores than every other one out there.

While Opus was designed for realtime online voice chat and came out of work done by Mumble, Skype and others, it's come out so well that it obsoletes Vorbis completely.

Which is fine. After all, there's no reason to use Theora since we got VP8, VP9 or AV1 is there?
