Anyone running a hackintosh machine currently?
I'm totally sick of Windows 10. I'm running GNU/Linux on my chromebook and my desktop but I still need a computer for doing music prod with ableton and cbf fussing around with Wine or anything like that.
I don't want to fork out for a macbook so I was thinking of grabbing a thinkpad x220 or similar and installing Mac OS.
Any tips from those more experienced in these ways than myself?
Also hackintosh general.
>>
hackintosh is a meme from 2009
>>

Its simple as shit if you choose a device with an existing guide.
>>
>>59520829
also open to alternative suggestions
>>
>>59520840
if you NEED ableton, you need windows. Dual boot with linux.
>>
>>59520864
don't need to dual boot as the machine will pretty much be dedicated to running Ableton.
>>
>>59520881
basically macOS seems like a better and less frustrating OS than Win10. Although perhaps its not. I haven't used it extensively to know.

If you want to try hackintoshing the easiest thing is to just try it. Get a Mac or Mac on VM, download sierra, use unibeast to make some install media and just boot it. if it boots into the installer your usually in the clear for the most part
>>
>>59520797

yes currently running macOS Sierra on an i5-3570k ... visit tonymacs forum. It has all the information you need.

its great
>>
Is there any reason I should go for El Capitan over Sierra on my x230? Can hackintosh safely update?
>>
>>59520938
Hackintoshs can safely update without intervention if its a sub version so like 10.12.1 -> 10.12.2.
Major OSX releases (El cap to Sierra) will at least need a clover update and stuff can break so wait a week before updating
>>
>>59520797
If you want to Hackintosh a laptop, the HP ProBook series is the best to do it with.

I currently have a Hackintoshed Alienware Alpha, it's pretty stable and have no issues compared to a real Mac.

Expect a lot of troubleshooting when you first hackintosh and don't expect flawless updates.

I installed Sierra on my PC two days ago and my reason is Linux sucks and has no actual programs for it, Windows 10 is botnet, and Windows 7 is terrible looking. Mac OS has the unix terminal and actual software going for it and also looks like a modern operating system. It's pretty good OP. Although I wouldn't recommend it to most people though.

here is my neofetch ... to show all these windows pajeets that im not lying or making his up

note: the uptime ... it just werks and doesn't randomly break on you like some windows shills claim it does
>>
>>59520797
if you dont mind a kernel crash every 2-3 weeks, along with a total annual fuckup with the major update, then go ahead
>>
>>59521024
It's less botnet It's obviously a lot more botnet than linux.
>>
>>59521050

>if you dont mind a kernel crash every 2-3 weeks

bullshit. This would only happen when you fuck around with random kext files for no reason at all and the same shit applies to rolling release linux distros like arch .. .they can break too if you aren't careful so its not any different

>>59521026
What are you running on friend? Custom desktop or laptop?

custom desktop

i5-3570k and gigaybte z77x ud3h mainboard.

only trouble i had was the audio driver. Took me like 3 or 4 hours post installation to solve the issue.

Before anyone does it check out what ethernet and audio device your mainboard uses and from there its pretty simple but it can be a trial and error process.

fucking around with kext files can break your system ... when you know what .kext it is it is possible to go around a kernal crash by blocking the specific kext manually in clover but you need to know what you are doing

its a great learning experience i guess but once it all works it works.

I think some people get around the audio issue by buying a cheap sound card that is apple approved or some usb sound card idk.

ALl depends on your mainboard and drivers you need so its different for every specific board/manufacturer i guess
>>
>>59521103
I have the gigabyte Z97X-UD5H and my sound was the only real issue I had it took me awhile to figure it out eventually I found some random patch script that fixed it, but even now the sound only goes out of the black jack not the green one like it's supposed to.
>>
To expand on what >>59521103 said, One note about builtin audio, anything that can't be used by appleHDA you might have to use voodooHDA which isn't the most graceful of audio drivers (you have to edit the kext in order to not hear the mic input trough your headphones)
My asus board had some odd VIA chipset and voodooHDA was the only thing that worked

It's actually better than windows at this point

Hackintosh isnt worth it, even if you get it running you realise how pointless it is to use osx.

windows x gnu linux dual boot is the best

There was a thread complaining about the obscene price of second-hand mac gear.
OP just need something that could run xcode so they could submit something to the app store.

Don't know what is there to be butthurt about, If I was so mad about not using Linux I can just install it.
All I ask is to not shit up other people threads with non-arguments for people who don't use Linux and take your Linux worship into another thread
