Bad luck. I've had various iPhones and androids, dropped most of them at least a few times and never had a smashed screen. Some people drop them once and that's it.

If it fails in the screen, it's fucked.

It's mostly due to how extremely fragile iphone glass screens are. I've dropped my J7 without a case face-first into the pavement and not a single crack formed.

iphones and ipads are consumer based products for the masses. Theyre not medical or military devices meant for accuracy.

Because it's the best material for a screen. The problem isn't the glass but how the glass is made and coated.

It is hard to predict how the screen gets damaged during a fall.
I once knocked my S4 down from my bedside table and it shattered.
The same day, I took my older phone and pushed it off a normal table, and it was fine (I had to check if all phones were this fragile)

As for your question of why you usually see people with iPhone screens smashed, it's because it's generally a lot more expensive than replacing some android phone because Apple so people don't.

Plastic is a great material to damp crashes, iphones uses aluminium lr glass wich makes the phone more dense and prone to break due to vibrations

Are plastic gadgets more shock resistant than metal ones? I dropped a macbook once and the screen broke, while my plastic laptop is ok.
