device manager says that hdaudbus.inf had a problem starting

sound video and game controllers section is missing from the device manager

also I have dual boot windows with elementary 0.4 loki and it doesn't work there either

so it isn't a problem with drivers

so the sound card is fucked :^)

driver could still be broken, prob is if its a realtek. uninstall and then right click pc icon and select "scan for hardware changes" windows should install a generic hd audio driver. if sound is working you can go to your mfg website and download and install the oem driver again if you want.

HDMI is hot pluggable. It should damage anything.
